My '92 EB has the classic stuck governor symptoms- sometimes will not shift into 2nd at the normal RPM's, take foot of the gas, then apply and it will then shift into 2nd gear. Going into 3rd and overdrive no problems. I have taken it to a couple of places, Aamco, local mechanics, but they all want to do rebuild or put in a used for $1200 or more. Is there anybody out there in central Jersey that knows a garage that will do this job- just repairing the stuck governor and how much should I expect to pay for this? I unfortunatly do not have the equipment to do this job myself.

I'd expect about 3-4 hours labor charge for a garage to do this. I'd have them replace the governor body while they are at it. I'd try my FORD garage and explain that is what you want done. They will be reluctant because if it does not fix your problems they will still expect to be paid, since they are doing what you asked, and you may be unhappy. Make sure they know you understand this is not THEIR diagnosis but your instruction and you will pay either way.

I'm guessing it WILL fix your problem, although the classic symptom is no cold 1-2 shift. You could also have a sticking spool in the valve body.
