Let me start by saying I will not be copying games that I do not own.

I am notorious for scratching or losing games and replacing gets expensive. I have a DVD burner capable of burning dual layer dvds. I have been trying to search online and I am pretty sure I need a modchip for this, but I am not sure if they will work for my v14 slimline PStwo. I would also like to do this for my DVD collection, but I know they have some sort of copy protection on them. As far as I know it is perfectly legal to make backp copies of material you already own. Can anyone help me? Sorry if I sound kind of scattered. This whole thing has got me

I have Nero 6. Can I use that at all? Did you use your software or DVDs or games?

Also, I found that DVD X Copy is illegal now?

Dvd X copy isn't illegal, they did just didn't have the rights to the decoder they were using as i understand it. Without the decoder it won't copy protected disks. DvdShrink is an easy legal free download. It will decode almost any dvd out there. Nero won't copy protected media without use of a stand alone decrypter.

DVDShrink worked perfectly for one of my DVDs I tried last night. Will it work the same for my PS2 games?

I have had excellent results using dvd shrink to backup my movie, but have no idea about the ps2 games. If I had to take a wild guess I would say you would likely need another program to copy them.

After a minute or 2 of digging it seems you can copy the ps2 games using dvd decrypter. Unfortunately dvd decrypter was shut down. You could likely find a copy on a music downloading site.

I don't think you will have any problems. Only if the game is burned on more than one layer of the original DVD would you have a problem. Throw a game in DVD Shrink. If it doesn't compress at all, you should be fine.
Post #1,000! Gosh, I still remember when I heard about this site years ago.....

DVD shrink is the best program out there, IMO, and it's free.

It works great for movies, but won't work for ps2 games, unless, you have a chipped ps2. It will backup the games, but your ps2 won't read a copy without a chip.

And if you get a chip, you are voiding your ps2 warranty, can get banned for playing online, etc.

The best way to backup ps2 games is to get a program called HDLoader. I have it for the bigger, older ps2 and it stores games on the harddrive. They were making one for the newer slimline ps2's that used an external harddrive.

That's the only way outside of chipping your ps2.

I know about chipping the ps2 to play burned games. As far as DVD Shrink, I have that as well. Didn'tknow about the HD for the slimline, I wil have to look into this.

Download PRIMO. It's free and it runs in the background. It make you pc reconize ps2 games. Then you can copy to DVD. You have to put a chip in your ps2 to read copies though

i can't back up all of my dvd's using dvdshrink, i used a trial version of anydvd to decrypt sony dvd's n such, but i only used it once or twice before my 15 day trial was over. anyone know of any free programs to decrypt so i can use dvdshrink to compress to a single layer dvd? or is it worth it to spend the $40 to get anydvd?

get DVD43. It is totally free and does the same thing as Anydvd. I use it along with Roxio 7. Roxio will compress the movie before it burns it. No need for DVD shrink it you have Roxio. Oh yeah, Roxio 7 will also capture your movie to your hard drive. So no Ripper is needed either. I found the Roxio 7 does itself what it takes 4 or 5 other programs to do. Search the internet for (freeDVD43). There are several download sites for it.

DVD X Copy is good for movies, buy wont doesn't have dual layer capabilities and only works at 4x... but I use it all of the time.
