Iroks are GREAT tires. Boggers are great too. I believe they both come in a 37.

Burns

then get you some Radial Iroks, maybe some TSL Radials. Stay away from the Boggers, as you will only get like 6K miles out of a set.

If you're going to DD I would go with something like Goodyear MTRs or BFG Muds. They are damn good on the road for a mud tire and they will last 40k or more. They aren't the most aggressive tires ever but they wear well on a DD.

where would one find a good seller of tires

slravene

Cotsco. Sams Club. Discount Tire. Local Mom and Pop places. 4WP if you dont mind spending a bit more. (i dont like 4wp, but thats just me.)

If there is a SAMs close by, I would go there. That is where I just got my BFG MTs and it was the cheapest place i found. They charge the price of the tire plus a $10 install fee per tire and thats it. The $10 include lifetime balancing and rotating as well as road hazard warranty. I got my BFGs for about $180 per tire (35") plus the install fee. Everywhere else I checked would have been over $200 per tire for the same package. Even if you don't have a SAMs club membership, it is only $35 bucks I think and you'll probably save more then that just on the tires.

37" bfg mt's i believe only come in a 17" wheel version. and i'd get iroks or tsl's over some mt/r's... but thats just me.

slravene

depends on what you run. Unless you run alot of rocks, dont bother with them. Go with Iroks.

Burns
02-21-2006, 11:46 PM
what about irok radials

slravene
02-21-2006, 11:49 PM
yes. thats what you would want on a DD.

The bias Iroks are dead quiet on the street and ride nice once warmed up. They dont flat spot as bad as most bias tires either. I have a set of radial Iroks going on the bronco but havent ran them yet.

they are 38s though and im not sure but they are just one size bigger

slravene
02-27-2006, 11:28 PM
what axle are you gonna run?

Burns
02-27-2006, 11:33 PM
d44/9inch

slravene
02-27-2006, 11:37 PM
i think you would be ok with the 38s if you didnt beat on it too hard. A TSL is a heavy tire...gotta remember that when gearing and building your axles.

Oh yea....and make up your mind ;)

im tryin but it seems like a good idea and there are five of them. it is only a inch more and i plan to be on a 4.88 or 5.13 so gearin is almost set

slravene
02-27-2006, 11:48 PM
that is no doubt a good deal...be prepared to replace them in about a year though (mileage = no-so-good)

Burns
02-27-2006, 11:51 PM
So they dont last too long

slravene
02-27-2006, 11:59 PM
i would say about 20K (maybe a bit less if bias)

Burns
02-28-2006, 12:02 AM
i am now at all loss but can i find a tire like this that has good tread life

slravene
02-28-2006, 12:07 AM
you wont. Its a trade off. Usually the better "offroad" tire the worse the "onroad" performance. Your best bet for a DD rig would be a set of BFG Muds (35-40K miles), ProComp muds (30-35K miles), Irok Radials (20-25K miles), Swamper Trxus Radial (27-30K miles), or Swamper TSLs (~20-23K miles). Those are only figures.....not guarantees, you could get much better....or much worse.

i may get a set of 35s to use on road and a set to use off road

even if all your going to run is 35's, 5.13's is what you'll want. u have a manual tranny. and u'll want to be geared low. trust me on this. i wouldn't even considere 4.88's. especially if u want to run larger than a 35. i honestly wouldn't go bigger than 37's absolute tops with only 5.13's. and even that could be pushing it imo. if u want 38's go with 5.38's. you'll need it. don't be spooked on the swampers. i "hear" of alot of people getting horrible mileage. but i've seen and know people that have gotten a consistant 30,000 mi or so out of tsl radials. on a total of 5 sets. all same size tsl radial on 3 different f150's. they all reached the 30,000 mi mark. which isn't too bad. not great but its a swamper ;) i dunno i mean i regret everyday that i only got bfg muds. now don't get me wrong. its an amazing tire with great mileage. but its not a beefy ass superswamper. thats what i want. thats what i should've gotten. obviously i didn't because i was being conservative. i wanted the mileage... yet again i have dissapointed myself with a bad choice. all for the sake of $$$. its always for $$$ and it always costs me more in the end. just get what u really want. it may not be that practical... but atleast you'll have what u really want.

The 38x12.50 swampers are a 37. For whatever reason thats one of the sizes in the Interco family that runs a little short. Hell, you're getting five of them. Mount them all on the same wheels and rotate them with the spare every oil change. I bet they would last a long time doing this.

i was under the impression that the 38x12.50 bias ply tsl's were 37.8" tall. the tsl sx 38x12.50 are 37.4" tall and the 38x15.50 tsl radials are 37.1" tall. or atleast thats what they list them as... anyone of those tires i still thinks needs atleast 5.13's though ;)

Both the 38x12.50 and the 38.5x15.50 run shorter than listed.

oh, well thats good to know. so the 38x15.50 tsl radial might actually be shorter than the 37.1" it says it is. cuz if so i've found my new tire... even 37.1" isn't too terrible with 5.13's... not great but certainly doable. damn shame it costs soo much :(
