Does anyone out there know if you can safely run P255 R70 16" tire in place of the stock P235 R70 16's on a 2002 XLT?

I believe you'd be able to. It's just a tad taller and a bit wider

Yes you can, I just put a set of 265/70r16 on the stock rims of my 2004 XLT 4x4. They are the Goodyear Wrangler silent armor. There is NO rubbing at all, even at full lock going over bumps. Since I went up a few sizes and have a limited slip in the rear I purchased a 5th tire, which fits perfectly fine in the spare tire area. I have a friend who has michelin 255/70r16 on his 2003 with no issues. If you want pictures of mine you can e-mail me.
