View Full Version : Is this cut in bead area safe?

A spare tire I picked up for my g/f's 05 Accord LXSE coupe. Brand new, with the paint lines still on the tread. Did not notice the cuts in the junkyard. Not returnable, but it was only $15. A guy I work with had similar damage to a tire he got there, but has had it in use for about nine months with no problems. This tire, if useable, will only be a full size spare only, so who knows if it will even be used.

Okay, or NO WAY?

It looks like it should hold a bead on the rim without any issues.

that's a pretty big chunk. I know when I installed my SSRs they got cut up a little - but never that bad. But like Blee said - you should be ok with it.

may cause ply separation, but you can use bead sealer to try and prevent it.

Yeah if you mount it up as a spare only have them put some bead sealer on it

Looks like it the inner ply might possibly seperate, so just put some sealer on it as said above.

As long as there is no cord showing, you are good to go. If it went deep enough to get into the cord then it could cause ply or sidewall sep.
