Sometime during the Truckhaven 2006 run my Elec-Trac started acting up again. I figured it was just it being its own stubborn self again. . .until I went to test it at home, and after going between lock and L/S for a minute, It bound up and I bounced the tire and spinning the tire did not spin the other tire or the driveshaft. Pulled the cover and found a whole mess of metal bits. Finally got a chance to take the locker apart and this is what I found:

All apart:

Some bushing of some sort in the locker portion:

You really think you can top the stuck shaft, and popping it out with a pair of 12ton jacks?

ouch... sorry to hear/see the carnage.. I believe they only have 1yr warantee (or maybe less). How long did you have it and how many off-road trips did it survive? I hate spending good $$ on parts to have them underperform.. :thumbdwn:

ARB... What made you decide that from the other options you were thinking of?

It had been in as long as the D44, so coming up on 3 years now? But I've had problems with as long as its been in. This was finally the excuse to pull it out.

ARB is the only selectable locker that has been around long enough to prove itself. OX is pretty much out, The elec-trac I had personal experience with, and the E-locker and ECTED are so new that there is no conclusive proof either way. Yes, there are electrical and air problems that people have with the ARB, but the locker itself is proven tough. As much as I enjoy trying out new products, I just can't justify the $800+ price tag to 'test' something new. . .again.

So is the electrac pretty much a piece? I really wanted one for my front 44, but now I am afraid of it! Detroit doesn't warranty them more than that? That is ridiculous!

They are not getting good reviews. I know two local shops that will not sell or install them anymore...

Nice work Jefe, should make your wheeling trips a bit more enjoyable, oh and the weekend afterwards as well (no more major repairs!)
