View Full Version : Who enjoys a nice stogie?
Nate1 04-24-2006, 02:35 AM Just wonder who in the EF community enjoys a nice cigar, be it cuban or not.
I recently began smoking cigars, about one a week, and I have to say I really enjoy it. In moderation, it is really relaxing and quite fun to explore the different brands and flavors out there. So far my top two are the Padron 1964 and the Gurkha Gran Reserves.
spindlecone 04-24-2006, 02:59 AM Partagas #10s, fuente 858s, 3 a day
Nate1 04-24-2006, 03:36 AM Nice, so you like a medium to full bodied smoke, huh?
I've got a Fuente Hemingway Classic that a member of another forum is sending me to try. I hear the Hemis are a pretty full smoke, pretty spicy.
jimbo74 04-24-2006, 03:57 AM i like the smell of pipes and cigar smoke, but i no longer will smoke any myself, i made a pact with my gf about no drugs, alcohol, etc, even if its legal.....
Nate1 04-24-2006, 04:13 AM Understandable, however I think your at a much greater risk driving to work than smoking a cigar every now and then (does not apply to the multi-day smoker as much).
"no longer" but did you formerly? If so what were your favs?

i was a wreckless driver long before i smoked or drank anything..... since i have had a kid, a lot has changed.... i made a promise to my girlfriend and myself to be healthier, and i am as a result, and thats how i feel about that.... im also in school for firefighting and i will be exposed to much worse smoke then a cigar, it isnt that i dont liek them or dislike people who smoke, i jsut made a decision for myself.. there are a lot of things i no longer do, part of growing up i guess.....
i never had a favorite i jsut smoked whatever was given to me..... haha, this'll sound ghetto, but i liked the smell and taste of swisher sweets
Explorer#2 04-24-2006, 09:46 AM CAO CX2 is one of the best i have had of late, another good one is an ONYX Reserve kind of hard to find but when i do i buy several
http://www.explorerforum.com/data/500/medium/IMG_0719.JPG
The CAO CX2 is the black band with two holes in it in between the hygrometer and the humidifier and the ONYX is the white and black band down at the bottom in the middle
GJarrett 04-24-2006, 09:54 AM So far my top two are the Padron 1964 and the Gurkha Gran Reserves.
By far, the absolute best non-Cuban I have ever smoked is the Padron 1964 Anniversario. There's not even a close second. That cigar defies description.
'97 V8 04-24-2006, 10:55 AM Its nice to know Cuban cigars where i am at are legal. I smoked one two days ago....dont even know the name but it tasted good. Any body want any cubans from canada? Wait is it legal for me to bring in cubans to the USA for personal use(cigars)?
kfkodiak 04-24-2006, 11:38 AM I'm still a pretty casual cigar smoker, but I do enjoy the lighter ones. Macanudos are my current favorite, nice and smooth. If I'm feeling really cheap, the Garcia Vega coronas are not too bad for grocery store stock.

I picked one up at a fancy cigar shop when I turned 18. I walked in and said "I want your best cigar". He went into the humidifier and came out with a Padron 1964. I got my gf to take a puff and she said it wasn't too bad. I haven't smoked one it a while though. I quit smoking all together 2 months ago after 4 years of smoking.
Creager 04-24-2006, 07:37 PM Monte Cristo's were my all time favorite. We actually went to the dominican to get them too.
But i quit smokin like, 6 months ago, after atleast 5 years of smokin' a half pack to pack and a half daily.
I like not smoking, and now that its been so long, i can smoke a cig or two when im plasterd and be disgusted with myself the next day. Its a beautiful thing.
MadScotsMan 04-24-2006, 08:20 PM I used to smoke Macanudos on occasion, usually with a brandy in the non-cigar bearing hand. Nice.
checkedout 04-25-2006, 07:51 AM I like em mild so I stay with macanudo for the most part. romeo and juiliete are good too.
DeRocha 04-25-2006, 03:10 PM Who enjoys a nice stogie? Thats easy-> Monica Lewinsky :p
TheFox88 04-25-2006, 04:08 PM The only ones that i actually buy are prime times. They are cheap, cheap flavored ones that you can get at any gas station. Every once in a while, a more expensive and flavorful cigar is nice though.
pete99ex 04-25-2006, 04:32 PM yeah i enjoy buying different kinds and trying them out the only ones i buy regularly are havana honeys they are alot cheaper and its a great cigar for 2 bucks in my opinion
I occasionally enjoy a Punch, or Macanudo. The darker the better :smoke:
Wait is it legal for me to bring in cubans to the USA for personal use(cigars)?
No, I don't think it is... But I could be wrong.
When my wife and I visited BC I went to a Cuban cigar store and picked up a hundred bucks worth of smokes. It was definately worth it.
Sams01XplrSprt 04-25-2006, 04:47 PM I smoke all kinds of cigars. Right now I am smoking a Churchill Cigar.

james t 04-26-2006, 07:37 AM I will smoke one on rare occasion, maybe once a month. Usually the cheap stuff.

Random timing, I smoked a cuban Montecristo the other night. Don't smoke cigars often at all though, I think that was the first one I've smoked this year.

GJarrett 04-26-2006, 08:57 PM A lot of you mentioned Macanudos. jrcigars.com produces a lot of cigars that are knockoffs of major brands and Cuban brands. I haven't tried their other stuff, but I've bought a lot of their JR Alternatives that are supposed to mimic Macanudos, and they are firstrate -- at a mere fraction of the price of a real Macanudo. I've smoked fine brands enough to be able to differentiate between tastes, and the JR Alternative's meet the challenge. Give 'em a try if you're inclined to. There's a lot of great mild cigars - Don Diego also comes to mind - but Macanudos seem to have a flavor of their own, and JR got it. I plan to start trying their other knockoffs soon.
Nate1 05-08-2006, 08:25 PM I just got "bombed" by members over at club stogie... here is what I have been given over the past two days:

I never seen a community as willing to share in the experience as these cigar guys! ;) They really do seem geniunely interested in showing newbies whats out there and what they can enjoy even if it means some cost out of pocket. Quite amazing really. Of course, the goal is to become more than a newb and then reciprocate the giving spirit, but hey, I'm willing!

spindlecone 05-08-2006, 08:30 PM With the exception of the ashton and the fuente, the rest are garbage cigars JMO
Nate1 05-08-2006, 08:41 PM You think the padron, montecristo habana, other habana, and Torano are garbage? You must have pretty expensive taste then!
spindlecone 05-08-2006, 09:03 PM You think the padron, montecristo habana, other habana, and Torano are garbage? You must have pretty expensive taste then!
Has nothing to do with taste Nate, the above mentioned are made from good leaf, but they are poorly constucted.
Most that pine over cubans will not like them, construction is perfect (all hand rolled) they draw perfect, they burn perfect, the flavor is something most have never experianced.
partagas and fuente dominicans, rival any real Cuban cigar.
spend 8 bux for a partagas # 10 double corona, or a real cuban #10 for 50 bux, 99.9% of cigar smokers will not see any diff.
knockoffs are what they are, newbis have not a clue, buy a 2 buck habana knockoff, enjoy. whatever turns your crank.
You get what you pay for
Nate1 05-08-2006, 09:14 PM Well in this case I got what I didn't pay for, but I hear the padron is an exceptional smoke so I'm excited to try it out, as well as the Opus X which I hear will absolutely knock your socks off.
I dont taste the little subtlties like people say "burnt vanilla, cinn twig, nutmeg, leather" etc. I do taste completely different flavors from cigar to cigar though, and some I like, some I dont. I have heard good things about partagas, but I'm not gonna rule anything out. They have a blind taste test thread over there where they trade one great cigar and one of their fav cheapies, and you would be suprised how many guess the cheapie is the better one.
Used to, but was "influenced" to stop by the girlfriend. Usually cheap stuff like Jewels, and a Vega here and there.
SunSearching 05-10-2006, 11:07 AM I really enjoy cubans, and if you guys ever want to get them "smuggled" into the US, here's the website to order them from... http://www.spiritscorner.com/scriptsing/buscar.asp?K=cigars&SUBMIT=Search
You can also order absinthe from them if you're interested in that... personally, I like Montecristo A's and Cohiba Siglo's... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I totally just registered on that forum. :)
Nate1 05-10-2006, 12:55 PM LoL, it's a good place! You gotta be careful that you don't mooch... IE you shouldn't be asking for them or making it sound like you need them... if you contribute and are generally a good aspect of the forum, I think it sorta follows that the regulars like to get newbies going....
cgriffin_5139 11-17-2006, 09:05 PM I don't see the montecristo cuban as for the other it looks to be Ramon Cefuentes.
Last year at the big smoke Las Vegas i met Carlos and Carlito Fuente. Carlos personaly gave me a Opus X, Frobiden X right out of his pocket. As we where riding down the elevator at Caesars Palace where he own's a cigar bar there called Casa Fuente. Wow it was the best smoke i ever had. next to a cuban Partigas Cuelebra.
