View Full Version : Good floor jack?
Mneofreek 05-29-2006, 05:38 PM I am in need of a good quality floor jack that will work well with my Explorer. The one I have now has 24" of lift and it works fine for the most part but I just don't trust it. It can be hard to slowly let the truck down...it always wants to drop it like a brick. My dad has a nice one that had a twist handle to let the pressure out and bring it down. It had been a shop jack and they just don't seem to sell them anywhere. What do you guys use?
MountaineerGreen 05-29-2006, 05:58 PM I cant recommend a good jack, but I would definitely look for one with a high lift range. I bought one that seemed nice, but wont lift my Mountaineer without blocks on the jack. It sucks! Look for one made for Trucks/ SUV's, they usually lift higher.
ExplorerDMB 05-29-2006, 06:45 PM NAPA makes some great ones

Hartman 05-29-2006, 08:40 PM I got a Michelin 3 ton at Sams Club for like $70 and it works great.
shadowex 05-29-2006, 09:25 PM i have the suv/truck 3 ton jack from walmart 21 inch lift range and real smooth let down about 50 bucks
Mneofreek 05-30-2006, 10:44 PM I'll have to keep looking around. I have some good ideas as far as where to look now. I did go to Sears awhile back and they looked at me funny when I told them I needed one that went higher than 18". So I wont go back there again. I'll try Napa and Walmart this week to see what they have.
sn0border88 06-01-2006, 12:56 PM We use craftsman at the shop, a 4ton model with a large handle makes it easy to lift and release slowly.

What! This post is useless without pics/and or further explanation.
sn0border88 06-02-2006, 12:31 PM im sure hes talking about floor lifts, like a 2 post deal or something, thats the range they sell for.
Noone, no matter how rich would ever buy an 8K jack.
section525 06-02-2006, 12:48 PM Plus it's canadian. That's $53.78 here in the US. Rather thirty if you ask me.
I've been really wanting to get a two post lift. :( But I would have to have it on the side of the house away from shelter/tools/power. I guess I'll have to wait. :(
I got a Michelin 3 ton at Sams Club for like $70 and it works great.

x3 on this one, I got one of those too
Flounder 01-02-2008, 10:23 AM Just picked up a Craftsman 3-ton from Sears for about $70 on sale. It's solid, but heavy as hell but has a relatively high seated position (had to roll a Subaru onto a 2x6 to allow the jack to clear the frame).
Whatever you do, avoid the Craftsman 2-ton aluminum jack. They seem to have a high defect rate--e.g., losing the pump seal early, etc.

Was this recent if so I may be interested in picking another jack up especially considering the Craftsman warrentee.. Lifetime.
