It was done by Explorer Express which is located in Richmond, CA. The lowering kit alone cost me about $120.00 plus new sets of shock absorbers (Edelbrock-if I am not mistaken I purchased each for about $70.00). Now here comes the most expensive of all. LABOR. Since I do not have the tolls and space to work on my upgrades, I always rely on certified mechanics to do any installation for me (with the exeption of changing my oil). n2knee 02-28-2000, 07:52 PM <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial ">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by mrsteve: I am looking to lower my 93 2dr EB about 1.75 to 2 inches. You will not really feel any downgrade as far as the ride quality is concerned. Even if you do not change your stock shocks (bouncy, huh) and tires. Kris Guilbeaux 02-29-2000, 12:20 AM Explorer express does not make a lowering it for the 91-94 i am suerching for on for a friend but cant find one. any know where to get one for sure. ------------------ Kris Guilbeaux 1992 Navajo Lx 5-speed attempting 4x4 convertion -- http://www.tisd.net/~guilbeau/explorer.html Trckmagik 02-29-2000, 06:57 AM I used to have my Explorer 91-94 dropped and actually have all the stuff for sale in the for sale forum! I dont think that my leaf springs would work due to mine being for a four door Explorer, but the dropped I-Beams should work just right! ------------------ Brian Green -2001 Sport Trac (soon) -1992 2wd Explorer w/ 6in suspension lift -1992 2wd Ranger w/ 5.5in suspension lift -Trckmagik@aol.com mrsteve 03-01-2000, 01:54 PM Where did you buy your lowering kit new?? Wow that is cheap, I would just do the work myself though.. http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/smile.gif I wouldn't think it would be that dificult. OR am I wrong... Trckmagik 03-31-2000, 08:15 AM My drop will not work for a four wheel drive explorer! You could do the work yourself if you had the right tools available to you! Xplor 03-31-2000, 11:01 PM The only way to lower 91-94 explorers is by using coil spring made by Eibach, which will drop the front 2". For the rear use blocks. All of this process is the cheapest way. Definately buy a camber kit if you going any lowering process! TymeKeeper 04-06-2000, 04:23 AM How much are the springs, and blocks, and how long does it take to do the work? ------------------ Jim '92 Eddie Bauer Explorer Dual 2.25 exhaust, no Mufflers Drilled AirBox Bosch Platinum plugs Low Temp Pro Thermostat Cobra 148GTL W/K40 Mag 235/60's Xplor 04-06-2000, 09:50 PM Lowering springs probably cost around 100.00-200.00, blocks anywhere from 10.00-30.00. I dunno how long it will take install if you are a "do-it-yourselfer. But took the shop that did mine in about an hour TymeKeeper 04-07-2000, 04:34 AM I'll have to look into it. The only special tools I would think I need would be a spring compressor, and jack stands. I'm not talking about the blocks, I'm lookin for one with a 4" or more drop with air bags so you can adjust the height. And also any idea of how much that would run? Trckmagik 04-10-2000, 06:48 PM I have brand new Eibach springs for sale for 75.00 dollars (never been on truck) And you can drop the front end of an explorer with something other than coils. I had dropped I-Beams on the front of my Explorer which fixes the camber and then there is no need for a camber kit. I went with blocks on the back at first but if you ever want to go to those drive through car washed again "I wouldnt do it" You wont clear the guides that are bolted to the floor. I ended up buying dropped leaf spring for the rear to solve this problem. Which way is better leaf springs, or blocks? ------------------ Jim '92 Eddie Bauer Explorer Dual 2.25 exhaust, no Mufflers Drilled AirBox Bosch Platinum plugs Low Temp Pro Thermostat Cobra 148GTL W/K40 Mag 235/60's Xplor 04-13-2000, 09:47 PM Okay guys, I went with the suspension techniques (not in business anymore..think got bought out from Belltech) 1" drop coils for my '92. The tires bowed out a little. The rear end, I used the 2". blocks. Overall, ride was great! However, my best advice for all of you who wants to go lower; I'd go with the I-Beams, since it doesn't effect the front end stiffness as much. Also easier on the suspension parts and tires. As for the back. Leaf springs are hard to come by now for explorers, plus they run around like 200.00. The block are a lot cheaper. So if you like to drive thru automatic car washes or towing heavy loads, then go with the leaf springs. RU MAN 04-14-2000, 06:00 PM Why would you lower a 4x4 explorer. The whole purpose of having a 4x4 is to beable to go off road. If any of ya'll want to drop a 4x4 then sell it and buy a 4x2. That will save u alot of money and they well have more power. Just What I Think, RU MAN Bill Kemp 04-14-2000, 07:04 PM In Michigan 4whl drive is something you really like your wife & kids to have when the snow isflying and the county road commision has cut back on plows cause the millage did'nt pass or something. The rest of the time we like the sprotiness of a lowered and powered car that can also haul some wood or some other usefull large items. And lookit they made an SUV just for me to fool with. ------------------ Bill Kemp 96 XLT 4x4 4. OHV JamesK 04-25-2000, 09:25 AM I was considering lowering my 94 Eddie Bauer but last night I was reading the reviews on the X-spec suspension kit that Explorer Express sells. The kit includes front and rear sway bars, Edelbrock IAS shocks and 1 3/8 inch lowering kit. They claim that lowering an older body style explorer is a bad idea and highly unrecommended. In the reviews they claim that they had lowered a 93 XLT and desipte all there efforts they could not control the "bounce factor" or generate a smooth riding vehical. Not even the almighty Edelbrock IAS's could control the bouncing. Now I have read the two pages of post on lowering and it seems the only person who has attemped this with an older body style Explorer is Brian Green. I after looking at his Explorer on the features I see he now has a 6" suspension lift on it. So Brian is it true. Was the ride uncontrolable? I would really like to take a shot at this because I think that a smooth riding lowered older body style explorer can be produced. ------------------ James K 94 Eddie Bauer 4x4 K&N Drop In Modified Air Box Dynomax Super Turbo Cat-Back Hypertech Module http://www.geocities.com/expo1994/Expo1994.html?956247136430 |
