Just joined and have learned so much already about explorers. I have a 98 XLT SOHC 4X4. I didn't know you could do so many mods.

Lots of mods for the SOHC. Go with an air intake and upgraded exhaust to start. That's how I started and it became an addiction afterwards...thanks for this site. :D

Thank you I wish I had found this forum a few years ago. I'm sure my wife is glad I didn't though. I want to start out with shackles and a TT after that maybe upgrade to some bigger tires and new wheels. I need a new muffler so I might go ahead and get a Dynomax or Flowmaster exaust kit. Air intake for sure. One thing at a time ya know.

I too had a Magnaflow on my old '00 SOHC equipped Sport. It resonated so badly even in the stock pipes and with OEM resonator. Lasted about 3 weeks and now it sits in the rafters of my garage. I really didn't like that muffler with the SOHC. Had an inconsistent tonal quality and sounded downright ricey at times. Even my wife called my Ex a "riceburner" with the Magnaflow. She didnt' say the same thing about Flowmaster which was a bit loud but had a much deeper tone. That was with upgraded 2.5" pipes too. I ended up with an aftermarket resonator to quieten down the cab a bit and it was perfect.

Magnaflow sounds oh so good on my truck and now sounds even better with the secondary cats gone.

V8 vs. SOHC V6. Night vs day. Apples vs Oranges etc.

I was going to put the Magnaflow on my V8 but thought it might be a bit loud for my tastes.
