I don't know why but just about every V6 sounds terrible when you put performance exhaust on them. If someone could invent a muffler that makes 4 cyl. and V6's sound like V8's they would be very rich.

A couple of years ago when I first bought the X, I purchased a Flowmaster delta flow cat-back, which was a direct bolt on to my '92 4.0. It sounded about the same at idle maybe just a little bit deeper but had a really deep sound when you really got on the throttle. It was nothing like a v8 but was defiantly a big improvement over the rotted out stock exhaust.

I really hope no one can come up with a way do that, it would just be wrong for a 4cyl. Civic to sound anything like a V8. But I guess anything would be an improvment then sounding like a supped up weed whacker.

Why are you all obsessing about sound?granted the system should sound nice.
But it is added performance from a well thought out system that counts in the end.

The larger the tip, the deeper the tone.

Not true, the tips have nothing to do with sound IMO

the flowmasters on the V6 4.0 sounds very good and is sometimes mistaken for an 8......but it isnt exactly like and 8. There are quite a few sound bites of 4.0's with flomasters.

My old 94 4.2L V6 Mustang with GT mufflers sounded mighty sweet. Even next to a stock GT it sounded awesome. It had to do with the F-150 cam that was in it though...at least thats what I think.
Good luck trying to get the sound you want. I am thinking that having a dual muffler setup on an 4.0 Explorer might be a good option. Although space might be an issue. Has anyone tried that?

I have the cherry bomb turbo muffler, and that exact tail pipe.
Heres a vid i took (mainly for sound) inside. Cherry bomb turbo mufflers are best bang for the buck, and sound pretty damn good on v8s. The tailpipe helped the sound a bit.
Probably want to right click and save as, if it doesnt work from the link.

Edit - i was also told the more chambers in the muffler, the better sound for v6's, but as spindlecone said, its performace that really matters.
