Gotta find out what codes are throwing the light. There is a procedure on the forum here on how to check codes yourself on an OBD 1 vehicle.

Moving this to the Under the Hood computers forum, under EEC-IV. Lots of good info there for you to read up on.

Most autozones will pull the codes for free. Even if the light goes out, the codes are still stored.

Unfortunately, he is in California.

I heard that AutoZone won't do it there. Cause (CA law),...................wel, you know California. And, I don't want to have to defend some politician's logic (or lack of it, as the case may be). Not that I would like to defend.................any politician..............especially, one from CA.

Aloha,Mark

PS...here it the post, from Glacier991:

Someone complained to the Board of automotive repair that scanning for codes was an aspect of "repair" and that Autozone didn't have a license. The Board took that position, and so autozone quit reading codes.

AutoZone only reads codes on OBD-II vehicles (96-up). Check my threads on 2, and 3 digit EEC-IV codes: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160035
