Does anyone know an easy place to tap into power after the ignition switch for installing accesories like CBs. on a 1999 model. On the 98 you could easily reach the cigarette lighter wire, but on the 99 you are blocked by extra stuff under the dash

Thanks

I fitted both leads to the battery by running them through the rubber plug behind the brake pedal .

run the power like chux said, then if you want it to turn on with the battery, use a relay connected to one of the fuses that turns on with the ignition

I'm moving this to the ham radio forum.

NSW Aussie Expl,

Chux and Mtexplorer are right. The best way to get power to your CB is both + and- directly to the battery. Tappuing off the cigarette lifgter etc, is n't the best, as these circuits aren't too heavy, and they will help introduce unwanted noise into the radio. Use at least #12 stranded wire, and gently twist to about 4 turns per foot to help limit the inductive pick-up of engine igntion noise etc. It is an excellent idea to put addioional fuses, 10 amp is sufficient for a CB, in both lines at, or close to the battery , just in case a short develops betweenthe batt. and the radio. You can install a relay powered by the ignition switch to prevent forgetting to turn ther radio off and draining the battery, as mtexplorer suggested, but I consider the CB to be emergency communications equipment, and might need to be used in the event of mechanical or electrical failure, and direct wiring to the battery with no relays to interrupt the power supply would be the most reliable. You just have to remember to turn the radio off. :)
