View Full Version : She's my Exploder
Grrlwronged 12-21-2006, 12:03 PM Hello everyone. My name is Jen & I own a 1991 Eddie Bauer. I purchased her back in 4/06. Yes I'm a newbie but I love her. She needed a little TLC when I bought her but it was worth it.
When I bought her she smelled of dog & had dog fur all over her cloth interior. She needed all new brake lines & drums not to mention an alignment. Her accelerator cable was disconnected & had a dead battery.
Since I've bought her I have done all necessary repairs, put in a new stereo/cd player, cleaned her every week inside & out including trying to restore her glossy exterior, installed vent guards & a cute bumper sticker thats states "Normal people worry me"
I never wanted an SUV but I was in a bind when I bought her but I have grown to love her.
I will pretty much keep her stock but will continue to make her look & drive better everyday.
cgriffin_5139 12-21-2006, 12:37 PM Sweet jen did you do the work yourself.
Grrlwronged 12-21-2006, 12:49 PM Sweet jen did you do the work yourself.
I helped with all the repairs. As a mechanic's daughter I can do alot but somethings I stay away from. The minor stuff, well that was all me!:D

As soon as she recovers from her latest endeaver in the shop, I will most definately have pictures of her to post. I'm also in the process of trying to get her twin that I saw for sale today.

Grrlwronged 12-21-2006, 05:04 PM Uh oh, Jen's been bitten by the bug. Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your X. :)
LOL Thank you. Guess you can say that. But where can you find an SUV that drives like a car, but can handle like a beast when you want it to?
briwayjones 12-21-2006, 05:23 PM Ah you figured out the secret. So are you going to drive one X Monday-Thursday, and the other Friday-Sunday? Or drive them every other day? hehe :)
It'll be cool having two X's that look the same. What kind of condition is the other one you are looking at in?
cgriffin_5139 12-21-2006, 05:30 PM I helped with all the repairs. As a mechanic's daughter I can do alot but somethings I stay away from. The minor stuff, well that was all me!:D

Ya know I never looked at it that way!?!? Well my Eddie has a cloth interior, is a 1991 w/roughly 151k. The other Eddie has leather interior, is a 1992 w/roughly 158k. They look almost identical right down to the rust spots.
Grrlwronged 12-21-2006, 05:34 PM I think Iam in love, a girl that works on her own car sweet.
ah shucks I'm blushing!!;)

Oh, GAWD. Someone's gonna get in trouble here, I can see it. "These guys get that syrup in them, they get all antsy in their pantsy." Anyways, welcome, Jen. You know, if you buy the twin, will you drive them both down the same trails so they get the same battle scars, too? If anything, at least one can make a sweet parts vehicle, right?

Funny Jen, all my friends are guys too :D My two daughters are just like me, we don't get along with most girls, you know the type, the ones whose only idea of fun is shopping (To me shopping is a chore, not fun)
I saw a decal on a truck that said "Real Women Drive Trucks" Gotta find one for my Explorer :D
Grrlwronged 12-22-2006, 06:11 PM Yeah it's funny cause I so look girly girl, but deep down I'm a hardcore b*tch. I tinker with my vehicles, throw my weight around in a mosh pit & according to all my guy friends I'm one of them. Some of my guy friends come to me with their vehicle problems. But yeah I hear ya Sobelover, I don't get along with women unless they are like me.

Is it me or are the girls that come from NE area. Are so down to earth and know something other than oh my nails bla bla bla or how much $ do you make. Take my wife for instance she know more than me about sports and stuff. We go to and watch redsox games all the time. We watch football ( go bears) and she says oh you car needs something oh go fix it, not you spend to much time on your car, she rulles! she's from Boston!

Grrlwronged 01-16-2007, 06:00 PM Ok so after freezing my a** off today tinkering with my new Eddie I finally got the battery charged & after running her awhile she "seems" to be running ok. The worst part of today was I must have laid my butt in a puddle of water as I was under the truck cause after I came inside my whole right butt cheek & thigh was soaked & frozen!!!! And no I don't have any pics yet!!!!!! I need a clear &/or sunny day (which New England has neither right now) to get good ones.
izackary 01-16-2007, 06:25 PM i want to see her with the pink umbrella. :)

Grrlwronged 01-17-2007, 04:17 PM Day 2. So had ignition for awhile today. Replaced 4 out of 6 spark plugs then battery truly sh*t the bed. DEAD DEAD DEAD. So now my adventures lead me back to the auto parts store to sell my soul & get a new battery. Thank god it's not gonna snow till late Thursday night, early Friday morn as if all goes well tomorrow I will register her & be playing in the snow on Friday!!!!! ;p
briwayjones 01-17-2007, 05:58 PM Why'd you only replace 4 spark plugs? If you have to replace 4 you should just replace them all.
Grrlwronged 01-17-2007, 06:10 PM Why'd you only replace 4 spark plugs? If you have to replace 4 you should just replace them all.
I replaced 4 out of 6 before I took a break, then the battery died. So I took an extended break till tomorrow, when I'll do the other 2.

izackary 01-18-2007, 02:09 AM Psh. His loss. Also, as a displaced Vermonter, which may not seem like much, but considering the belt of freezing weather seems to be between Manchester and Concord NH, I'm going to go out on a limb and say no one has been more aggravated by this "winter" or lack thereof than me. I was thrilled to go out into the 8-degree night yesterday to make a drug store run. Even with my pint of gas, the truck still started right up! :D

The lack of winter has seriously aggravated me too, but if it couldn't be snow, I'm glad it was rain. I can do without ice storms...they are so dangerous. Seeing the weird winter weather all over the place makes me think of the movie, "The Day After Tomorrow"
Hoping for some snow soon :(
Grrlwronged 01-18-2007, 02:11 PM Truck#2 is on the road. Still hafta do the other 2 spark plugs but I'll go to my mechanic to borrow his tools to put those in. Can't reach them myself.

The driver's side are easy while the plugs on the passenger side are best reached by removing the passenger tire and going through the wheel well (just my $0.02..

What can I say? I can be either really lazy or really busy. There's no happy medium.
But now all can see my babies. When it's not so freezing I'm gonna give both a good bath. The blue one definately needs it from sitting so long!!!!
Grrlwronged 01-20-2007, 07:20 AM i still want to see a pink umbrella.

Grrlwronged 01-20-2007, 04:01 PM Here's a better pic of the blue Eddie. I took this out front of my house as cars were looking at me weird drivng down my street.:D
briwayjones 01-20-2007, 05:30 PM OOOOOOOO Looks like my '91 Explorer. Except my '91 isn't an Eddie Bauer, and it's Red not Blue, and it has different rims, and it's rocker panels are a lot more non-existent.

Hey well this is the "one that got away" from ya here in CT
briwayjones 01-20-2007, 05:42 PM Ya, the guy didn't say anything about that missing rocker panel there. I have rims like that on my 2000. Actually I did have rims like that on my '91 for a while.

A majority of the older ones have the same rust spots. All you do is weld some sheet metal on to cover the hole. No biggie
briwayjones 01-20-2007, 05:48 PM Yeah he said there were only a couple little spots. I guess that's true since if the rocker panel isn't there it's not rust.

My original Eddie didn't have the rocker panels either. Step rails are better I think anyways
izackary 01-21-2007, 02:09 AM I'll show you a pink umbrella!!! lmao:p:

Sure the more the merrier. Both my babies are stock & it's not what's under the hood, it's who's behind the wheel. I'm a b*tch that knows how to drive & have blown many people outta the water in both AT & 5spd. So the challenge is on to who feels to take it on!!
Raminator157 01-22-2007, 02:58 PM You do realize that you have the pushrod OHV V6 and I have the SOHC V6 with low miles?

MustangDos 01-23-2007, 05:11 PM What are you talking about. You don't want 4x4 when you're doing donuts. :D
You have a point there...but, since I couldn't get out of my neighborhood, I could only do donuts in the court in front of my house...that is no fun and not enought room...Rear wheel drive and ice don't mix to well...unless you ARE trying to do donuts!!!!
Grrlwronged 01-23-2007, 10:34 PM will it just f*ckin snow for real!!! damn I can't test out my 4X4 on my new baby
