Yes, I rolled my Mountaineer over on its side on the way home, but the day was still fun up until that point. Here are the pics & videos...

Please tell me you are joking about the "rolled it on the way home" part--

nope, '97v8 has photos of it. It was real hilly and a gravel road. When I crested the first hill I saw the trailer almost to the top of the second hill. By the time I got to the bottom, I didn't see it anymore, By the time I got to the top of the second hill, the trailer was just barely over the crest of it, that is where it happened. I tried to use the berm to slow my truck down, but it decided to climb the berm instead of just rolling off of it. I think that hit broke the tie rod because as we came back across, I cut the wheel all the way to the right to come out of the swerve, but when you look at the way the wheel hit the second berm, the tread was facing left, making it roll up the hill and send us on over. I had to be going as fast as I was to make it up the hill. I had no where to go with it once I got to the top and the trailer was just on the other side.

Truck's not too bad for being rolled. The only thing that might total it is i think the A pillar is slightly bent in. Otherwise, just looks like the passenger door and all associated parts, windshield, front bumper, tie rod and hub need to be replaced, maybe a small amount of body damage, but not much for being laid on it's side. I have a claim in, We'll see what they say.

Oh man!!:(
At least you didn't get hurt.

I was going to try to make my truck look like yours! Can I skip that part???

sorry to hear about you rolling it...you have a good excuse to start a SAS though. It looks like a good place to wheel, to bad i was busy this weekend i would have tried to make it down.

Damn that sucks! If they total it, negotiate a buyback price in the process.. thats if you want to keep it and wheel it.

The claims person called a little while ago, they are sending an appraiser down to look at it. I hope they don't total it. How hard is it to fix a bent A pilar? It's not bent too far, just enough to pop the windshield. I'm pretty sure it needs a new door too. It didn't do any more body damage than I already had from wheeling. We'll see what they replace. I'll probably do the tie rod and bumper myself to save on the deductable and get a better bumper. If they want to replace the fenders, i can get fiberglass.

What sucks bad is I am 1100 from paying it off.

you should be able to do the door as well.. get a new one and have it painted at maaco or something, and then install it. I dont know if yours is worse than mine was but I just had a guy come out and install a new windshield.. and it seated almost perfect. He had to use a little more urethane than normal but thats no big deal. Here is a pic of the before

It's not that bad at all, Didn't rumple the fender at all, Only busted glass is the PS window and the windshield (IDK how the back didnt' get busted, I had a spare tire not strapped down, plus a bottle jack loose in my crate as well as my 5400# chain in it's case).

I don't even think the upper roofline was touched. A member of my local club went to look at it, said there is a good dent in the rear door. Front bumper is jacked on both sides from hitting the berms, Tie rod, probably a hub and some scuffs from sliding on a gravel road for a few feet. A mirror of course (I actually think that is what broke the PS window out).

I just looked up the retail book value is $8400. I don't think I did that much damage.

PS, does this mean I get to be a member of the Rollover posse now? LOL

I'd say you are an official member of the ROP. :D

Sorry to hear you rolled it, but from your description, it doesn't sound too bad. Good luck.

OK so after watching the second video I am convinced that the next Explorer/Mountaineer I get is going to be V8!!! [/COLOR]Power isnt the issue, and is almost always never the issue as the transfer case can more than double the torque if needed. The issue is always traction. There are a few weird rigs (some on PBB) that run ~650 cc motorcycle engines.

updates on the roll/ insurance issue?

chriswells78

I am buying it back, my buddy is going to help me do an assessment to see what it's gonna take to make it roll again(not on it's side, LOL). I know it needs the A pilar pulled out and a windshild, A arm, passenger window and maybe a door.

Option "b" would be to buy another one, put all my parts on the new one and part the rest of the old one. Ins is giving me 5600-500 deductable, -1100 that I still owed on it, -750 to buy it, so I'll have ~3200 to fix it or buy something else. I also have my tax return yet that I could put on the new one If I can wrestle it away from my wife. Also, If I buy another one, I can get the sales tax for up to the value of the total (5600) which would work out to about $400, but the catch is I have to buy another one within 30 days.

Pimpin. looks just like mine haha, all you need is a sticker on the fender. I have extras :D

chriswells78

I took my stickers off and put 5.0 badges on. Strangely enough, their not hurt.

So are you going to fix it? Doesnt look like the damage is too bad, new windshield, door glass(maybe a door) and some suspension stuff.

chriswells78
03-20-2007, 10:17 PM
Frame's got a kink in it and the B pilar is bent pretty good. Looking for one with a bad motor or tranny to just swap my good running gear into a good body. Another 5.0 AWD would be optimal. Then I could just part the rest.

wanna swap interiors when you get the other rig?

chriswells78

Depends on if the new one is leather or not. If it's not, I'll be moving my leather into it and f/s ing the cloth.
