So I'm going to Tahoe this weekend and it's supposed to snow. My X is a 2WD so I need to get chains because there might be snow this weekend. I can get a new, unused pair on craigslist for $30 (Cobra Jr) or I can spend $89 for the Z-Chains at Pep Boys. Which one should I get? For the Cobra, I'm not sure if I would need adjusters.
These are the Cobra brand: http://www.qualitychaincorp.com/detail.phtml?sku=1665
These are the Z-Chains: http://www.scc-chain.com/Traction%20Pages/Trac_ZChain.html
Thanks!

Welcome to the site. Neither of those are actually chains but cables. The z style has better control, and tend to flap less. Take it easy and don't use them on pavement at all or they'll shred. If used properly they should both increase traction tons.

Thanks for the reply. I might be leaning towards the Z even though they're more expensive.

With the Z the cable will always contact the road, and probably ride smoother. I assume they would loosen less as well.

One more question: is it necessary to get cables for all four tires? I'm not sure if that's what I'd need if the chain/cable requirements are more strict if there is more snowfall.

since you are 2wd, just get them for the back. They won't do anything for the front.

Thanks! I went out and got the Zs from Pep Boys.

The trip to Tahoe was a success with the Z cables. We had to use them on the drive home after getting a huge amount of snow Saturday night and all through Sunday.
