Hi, I was looking at a set of Kumho on Tire Rack, I was into on road performance so don't know much about Light Truck/Suv Tires. My first experience was when I bought my shiny black 2000 Ford Explorer XLT, and in less than one week the whole Fireston shit hit the fan!!! I pumped those Firestonese to 31psi and got 30K miles on those firestone's and traded them in for a refund from Ford the weekend the recall was expiring. Got a set of Mcheline Cross Terrain as it was so highly regraded by Tire Rack. Now 50K I need a new set, looking at Tire Rack the Kumho Road Venture HT and Micheline Cross Terrain are side by side. $60 difference on the side of Kumho's

So any reason not to buy Kumho???

I prefer the Kuhmo tires over Michelins. The Kuhmos handle better, stick better, and last just about as long.

I have Michelins on my Trailblazer right now and can't wait to get rid of them. Worst tires I've ever run. That thing is sideways all the time when it is wet, and snow? Yeah, right... I can run circles around it with almost any other tire.

Big name, big bucks, not such a big performer in my book.

I loved the cross terrains.

Me too, no big complains. I have 50k + on them and they behaved fine rain, snow. They are starting to show tire rot like symptoms, not what you want on a $160+ tire but I would have to take it up with Costco or a lawyer.

Local Dealer by me said $85 + $10 (I guess the extra 10 is for mounting, disposal, valves, spit shine etc) for the Kumho tires on my P235/75/15. And guess just learned that P stands for four ply and LT stands for 6 or 8 ply?

That's ok, as I'm still going back and forth weather to buy rims/ tire and rims, used or just slap some tires and wax the truck!!!

I've never had the Michelin Cross Terrains, but I've had the XC LT4s and LTX MSs and never had a problem with them. I put almost 70,000 miles on the LTXs before they needed changing on my 96 Explorer. I haven't tried a set of Kumhos yet, but I've heard good and if the price is right I might give them a shot when I need tires again.

Plus Michelin is Frech owned:mad: They would be speaking German right now if we didn't save their butts!

I just put a set of the Kumho Road Venture AT KL78 on my Mountaineer about 1000 miles ago (last week). Love these tires, minimal road noise, fairly smooth ride, and a somewhat aggressive apperance. Bought them from tirerack.com. For all 4 tires plus shipping it came to like $340, then the local Tires Plus will put them on for $70. I compared them to the Michelins & B.F. Goodrich's. Saved at least $50 per tire, and I'm not convinced the quality is any less. Go with the Kumho, you wont be dissapointed.

I was looking at Kumhos at one point for my 96. Cheap, and the ratings on Tirerack are impressive. That was for the Kumho Road Venture AT 825. My local Discount Tire ordered them in, but the Kumho Road Venture AT KL78 came in as the new model. They looked too much like a Dominator brand that a buddy had in the past, which made his Suburban feel like driving a ship. The amount of ratings on Tirerack were small, but the ratings was good. Now, with more ratings, they look like they would have been a good choice. Since I passed on the Kumhos, I was going to go with some Firestone Destination A/T, but ended up going with some Michelin LTX M/S.

If you end up considering the Cross Terrain, check out the LTX M/S. They improved my ride ALOT.

Six more months and we might all be speaking Deutsh, they could have perfected the 262 and we all be wearing a little black mustache and driving Kubelwagens instead. Well some where 4wd!

Thanks for the tire comments...

That is a tire comment. I refuse to buy Micelin tires & support the French. The terrorist can blow them off the map for all I care.

There are better and less expesive tires out there than Michelin.

Try the search feature if you want to know about good tires.

To that, I would have replied, YES SIR. When exactly did the French become great engineers? :D Seems to me they are better known for wine (Whine!) and women...

There is nothing shoddy at all coming out of South Korea, and of course, there is nothing at all coming out of North...

FWIW, I know a lot of S. Korean people. They are some of the most diligent workers and thinkers I've ever met. I can't think of a more intense people. In large part, if you are thinking of going outside an American made product, I would not hesitate to take a look at something Asian. We no longer live in a "made in Japan = junk" world. Now, China -- you can find all sorts of weirdness going on there as yet, but Korea, Japan, etc., manufacture some of the world's best.

Oh, and if you are thinking along the lines of "buy American" you had better make sure it isn't a product of Mexico... That is another issue all together, but in tires, a very real one. Quality can suffer from tire to tire... Both of my kids work/own off-road shops and tires made in Mexico can be totally off the wall at times, while at other times, right on the money.

I have Kumho Road Venture A/T's, 31's, good tires, stick great in the rain and mud and quiet. Best thing was I saved $200+ over BFG A/T's that I walked in to get.
Yeah they are foreign made, but isnt everything nowadays?

He I hear you, on my VW Jetta back in my boy racer days I swore on Yokohamas!!! They where using great compounds and they stuck like glue. When my first set was wearing I got a great deal on tires and rims from a girl at work who was getting rid of her Audi. The tires where Good Year Eagles, on the first day I drove them to work I nearly got killed when the Eagles went straight as I was trying to turn right!!! By the end of the week a new set of Yokohama's arrived from Tire Rack!!!

IMO Goodyear's are some of the worse tires out there along with the most expensive.

When I bought my '97 Mountaineer almost six years ago it had Goodyear HT.
HT must have stood for Horrible Traction.

I've got a set of Wheel Trac (Firestone private label) that were $85 ea for a 31x10.5x15 that have been great. The only problem is from my ball joints being shot & not rotating them like I should.

I probably have 40-45k and they have plenty of tread left.

I'm in a better mood today than I was when I was bashing the French.
If they would have shown support by helping out in the begining of the war of Iraq I wouldn't be so mad.

I do think it's time to start pulling out becuase nothings really changed:(

O.K. back to the toppic.

I have the Kuhmo M/T's on my X and have been very pleased with them. They actually have performed better than my BFG M/T's did.

Bought my 2001 Limited with Michelin LTX M/S tires, got 85,000 miles on them and still had tread. I just replaced them all with the same tires, love them, wouldn't have any other brand. They're quite and run smooth and handle great on slick roads and as well in sand. I had Goodyear Wranglers on my 1996 XLT, worst tires I've ever owned. I just replaced them with the same Michelins as on my 2001 Limited...love them!!

I now these are different sizes and all but my 20's are on Gooodyear Eagle GTII's and have been great for me, 40-50k on em and still got a good amount of tread and have had good luck with em.
