I have 195-50-15 on my Paseo, and I could not imagine something that small on an Explroer.

You say wider 'street tires'...then you mention a tire that is Narrower, and shorter than the stock size of 235/75-15.

On my 1st Gen, I have 285/50-18. 285 is about as wide as I would suggest without major mods. As it is, on a round-about, or tight fast turn I can rub both the inner and outer sides of the fender on the same side....I'd say it's plenty wide...

Hi ya',

As u see, I'm new at mods, duh me. So, thanks guys, I'll get used to mods sometime. I just went the wrong way, huh? Would 265/60 x 15 give me a wider stance than my 235/75s? I don't want to buy new wheels, I like my original 15s...besides my wife says "it's too high 4 me 2 get into comfortably" now. :) Thanks for any info.......

Yes they would.

Stock tires in inches is:
28.9" tall
9.3" wide

265/60/15 in inches is:
27.5" tall
10.4" wide

It would definetly widen the tire some while also bringing down the sidewall height.
