Here's my 2 cents worth on tires. I have a '96 Explorer 4wd and my first set of tires were the original GY RT/S's. After 93,000 miles I replaced them with GY AT/S's. The AT/S's now have 74,000 miles on them and I will probably get another 10,000 or so miles before I replace them. As far as traction goes the RT/S's were good but the AT/S's are even better on wet roads and ice. The AT/S's are a bit noisier but not unacceptable.

KJB, I have to agree with you. My 95 has the rt/s's on it, great tire for now, I have about 3k on them, once they are spent I'm going for the at/s's. My father-in-law has them on his 2k f150 xlt off road, and we think they kick much a double s!!!

I had GY RT/S's on my 95 as well and got about 70,000mi out of them and they still had another 20,000 left in them. My problem with them is that I frequently drive in Portland and Seattle where standing water on the freeway is common. In my opinion these are the wrong tires for rainy areas. Especially once they got some wear on them, wet traction got real bad. I have Michelin LTX A/T's now and they are much better at wet breaking (possibly because of the factory sipe)and cutting through water on the road. In dry areas though the Good Year RT/S's are a good tire and usually a good price. I think I could have gotten 90,000 out of them just fine.
