I just went to Best Buy to check out some speakers. I am looking for new speakers for the front only. The driver side seems to rattle (hum) like it is ripped or something. I looked up on their computer and it said that direct replacement for the factory is 5x7. I really liked the 6x8. They are the Pioneer ones. Which one should I get and which are direct replacements. If I get the bigger ones what does it look like I have to do to them to put them in. I plan to do the job myself because I don't think 30 bucks is fair for taking off the door panels and connecting a pair of wires.

With MOST speakers, 5x7 is exactly the same as 6x8. Both will fit.

Matt is correct about the speakers though, a 6x8 'SHOULD' fit. If it dosent, making brackets is as easy as saying "Jig-Saw". Make sure you wire the polarity correctly.

Yeah it shouldn't matter wheather you get 5x7's or 6x8's cause they will both fit. I have went from 6x8's to 5.25's to 6x8's and finnaly ended up at 6.5 componants.

If you're planning on getting from Best Buy, you might as well go to Crutchfield. http://www.crutchfield.com

Best Buy sells around retail price, and you might as well go through Crutchfield then. Usually, Crutchfield will sell the same stuff as BB. If you go through Crutchfield, they'll hook you up with the easy to follow instructs, and the snap in adapters for your speakers so you won't have to splice yourself. Makes everything easy. $30 is WAY too much for a job you can do yourself, and much faster at that (given that you'll probably have to wait in line for other cars in their install bay). If you call them, you might ask them if they have anything on sale too. Sometimes they have older, smaller stock that can't be put in the webpages and mags, cause inventory is just too small to even advertise it.

The rattle/hum sound could be from the rubber surround being ripped, but I'd guess against it, because the stock equipment is heavy duty rubber (which is making it sound poor). I'd guess it to be the cloth material that's placed between the actual door panel and the speaker, the glue may have just come undone and it's flapping around.
