View Full Version : Big Bear???
Stic-o 05-29-2007, 01:51 PM Ok we all need to get out... There is a bunch of EB's going out on June 9-10th (http://socalbroncos.net/bbbb)which could be kinda fun, but I think it's a bit of late notice. :( I'm not even sure I would be ready.
So how about July some time... say 14-15 or 21-22 What works for everyone?
FROADER 05-29-2007, 02:26 PM June is bad for me. Every weekend is booked. :(
carlover 05-29-2007, 02:35 PM july would be good depending on the weekend..
I havent really been on any trails up there other than just the regular dirt roads through holcomb valley and all that. How will my 2wd do??
Stic-o 05-29-2007, 03:41 PM June is bad for me. Every weekend is booked. :(

FROADER 05-29-2007, 03:46 PM My bad, I just read the EB dates. :p: A 5 day weekend in West Virginia with no sleep, drinking your meals and almost sinking a pontoon boat, will make you a little crazy. I need to recover.
Tbars4 05-29-2007, 03:54 PM how about the weekend after 4th of july...all the tourist are gone and it gives some of us time to work on our trucks...that would be perfect time frame for me i'm thinking..
First two weekends in July work for me. I'll race you all up the mountain. :burnout:
Stic-o 05-30-2007, 04:44 PM First two weekends in July work for me. I'll race you all up the mountain. :burnout:
Before or after we get to the rocks?:p: because I don't think the Focus will do to well on the rocks:D
Before or after we get to the rocks?:p: because I don't think the Focus will do to well on the rocks:D
To make it fair, all the way to the campsite. That way when I get stuck in the dirt you guys won't be TOO far behind to come pull me out. :p:
FROADER 05-30-2007, 04:50 PM So is it gone Jefe?
So is it gone Jefe?
Not yet.
jobunn 05-30-2007, 06:52 PM Mid to late July should work for me. I will probably be out of town around the 4th and the following weekend.
I'm open for dates in July...I need some wheelin before then though, anyone up for a day trip on Cleghorn in June?
Ritsui 05-31-2007, 12:16 AM Cleghorn in June?I can be there almost any time other than the weekend of the 22nd
Sounds good Ritsui...i'll start a new thread for a Cleghorn run, don't wanna clog up this thread.
Stic-o 05-31-2007, 12:20 PM I'm open for dates in July...I need some wheelin before then though, anyone up for a day trip on Cleghorn in June?
I'm Listening:D
although, I have this weird leak that just started. I think it's the inner seal on the pass side of the front diff.
Stic-o 06-04-2007, 01:36 PM (Ben Stein's Voice)anyone...anyone.... anyone?
carlover 06-04-2007, 04:05 PM im in for whatever date as long as its a weekend i dont have my kids. How would the 2wd do?? or would i need to ride along with one of the "big dogs"??
Ritsui 06-04-2007, 04:24 PM The last time I went (Gold Mountain and the easy part of John Bull), two lifted 2WD Ex's had to be strapped several times.
Lift alone probably won't do it unless you're locked in back.
carlover 06-04-2007, 04:26 PM no locker yet. looking into one, but that would take money away from my LT build.
Tbars4 06-04-2007, 06:16 PM i'm wanting to go in my X though...:hammer:
(Ben Stein's Voice)anyone...anyone.... anyone?
Alright, my internet connection has been less than reliable for the past few days so I haven't been able to get online:mad:
I'd still like to get something going but as of yesterday I got the ol' CEL:rolleyes: Went to autozone and checked it out...banks 1 and 2 too lean. Looks like I got some head gaskets to change out, at least I think that's what it is.

Nah mine does it all the time in the winter, I just reset it. I always thought mine was just the O2 sensors. I can even tell when it will kick on in the wintertime. same spot everytime on the way to work.;)
Mine has an off and on rough idle so something is definately wrong. I'm gonna check for vacuum leaks for starters.
jobunn 06-07-2007, 05:38 PM July is looking more open for me now for Big Bear. In the meantime anyone up for a day trip to Cleghorn or 2N17x on June 23 or June 30th?
I'd be up for that Joe, 2N17X is the trail up the road from Cleghorn and closer to Silverwood lake right? I always get those trail #'s confused.
Truck seems to running a little better after replacing the EGR gasket...wasn't much left of the old one:rolleyes: I'm gonna drive it around this weekend and make sure eveything is cool.
im up for big bear and cleghorn, if i ever get out and work on the truck though haha. so are we saying big bear in july not june right?
RangerX 06-08-2007, 06:11 PM 2N17X is a fun trail.
Stic-o 06-11-2007, 01:53 PM Can we lock down a July date that everyone can make it?
Also anyone who wants to do a run cleghorn in the next few weeks.
Come on guys!!! Let's wheel!!!!:bounce:
carlover 06-11-2007, 02:29 PM Id love to join you guys but my 2wd might have some issues in some of those areas.
Ritsui 06-11-2007, 02:45 PM carlover,
IIRC, Cleghorn has 2 tracks nearly the whole way with easy bypasses for all the hard stuff.
Stic-o,
As I posted before, I should be available almost any weekend (some weekdays too) except the 22nd through 24th. That leaves 15th-17th and everything after the 29th. As for Cleghorn, I can do that on an hour or two notice almost any day

Looks like we've settled on a date for the Cleghorn run...As for Big Bear, I'm pretty much open for dates except 4th of July weekend...probably be a zoo up there anyways that weekend.
Tbars4 06-13-2007, 06:10 PM i'm hoping to get my 4wd working in the project X and run both runs if it's ready...i got to get the front re-geared first...i might even take my ranger but that is why i bought my X, lol...so just know, i'm in if you see the project X thread saying i have 4wd again...:D
Black Goblin 06-14-2007, 12:23 AM Man I wish I could just get my Ex done so I can join everyone on these runs. My Ex will be more than capable once it is back under its own power. I hope I can get it ready for one of these runs.:(
Anyone wanna help put in a tranny :D hehe
Tbars4 06-14-2007, 12:48 AM it sure got quiet in here, lol...:D
Black Goblin 06-14-2007, 12:53 AM Yeah I guess no takers for a tranny job lol :D Didn't think I would get much takers on that one. I am dreading it myself lol.:D
cybergasm 06-14-2007, 12:55 AM Nahhh just got the date nailed down for Cleghorn now we need to nail down a date for Big Bear and we'll be good to go.
Tbars4 06-14-2007, 12:57 AM when do you plan on doing it??? do you have the tranny jack and the little tranny tool??? more importantly, where are you going to do it...maybe some of the sd and oceanside boys and maybe even myself can come down and make a party out of it...don't worry, i've had no offers of any help getting my 4.56 gears put in the front either and that and my alignment parts is all i need to get the X wheelin...

I was gonna try and do it at my house. What tranny tool do I need so I can go buy it tomorrow to get the old one out? I can do pretty much anything with suspension I am just a newby on gears though. I think I am gonna have to do my own gears once I get them. That will be fun lol. The thing is once I start on the truck I work until it is done. :D I am hard core when it comes to that. I did a whole conversion on my old civic in 13 hours and only took a 15 minute break to eat lunch lol. Well let me know if you need help with your truck I am willing to help you out with your rig.I have EXPLORE619 coming over tomrrow and I am gonna put my 4dr coils on his sport and put on my other leaf on his truck. gotta do the radius arm bushings too. I am glad I don't have those arms anymore. :D hehe Then we are gonna take out the tranz once we are done with that. I just hope I have the right tools for it.
Tbars4 06-14-2007, 02:24 AM if it's a a4ld there is a huge info sticky on it and i would read that first...as for tools it's been a long time since i did a tranny but don't you need the little plastic alignment tool??? i can't remember...read up and good luck...:D

Oh thats for if you have a clutch. Autos kinda just slide in when you already have the torque converter in.:D
FROADER 06-14-2007, 02:54 PM So.....Big Bear.....
What dates work best for everyone?
Best for me would be the 14/15 or 28/29.
Stic-o 06-14-2007, 02:59 PM if we do 28-29 I'll have to just go for the 28th probally. I need to leave for vegas for a trade show Sunday afternoon:rolleyes:
cybergasm 06-14-2007, 09:39 PM i kinda like the 28/29 gives me more time to get my new junk running and on the road;)
man im itchin bad to go to the mountians
Stic-o 06-27-2007, 11:56 PM So I are we still going to big bear next month or what? Are we all selted on 28th-29th? what's the deal here.. we don't wheel in so cal anymore or what?:(
Tbars4 06-28-2007, 12:26 AM the pismo trip just got moved to august 10-11-12...if i can make big bear too, i'll try my best...ive been spending way to much time chasing little parts and not working, lol..."D
BKennedy 06-28-2007, 01:42 AM Suscribing
I'm still in, as far as dates go i'll let you guys decide and keep that weekend open.
Well, it's July now....what's the verdict?
Tbars4 07-04-2007, 12:21 AM it's really hot and i'm needing some newer tires, lol...:D
jobunn 07-04-2007, 12:37 AM Got my new axle in today after work and most of the rock damage hammered out from the beating at Cleghorn...but Big Bear is still iffy for me this month. I'll try and make any date work but I probably won't be 100% until August.

FROADER 07-05-2007, 01:41 PM What, you let one of your brothers drive??
Yeah Joe, you should know this by now. :p:

jobunn 07-05-2007, 01:46 PM They only drove for a few minutes...they can't handle the stress of me yelling at them not to break something:D
Unfortunately, the axle was all me.:thumbdwn:
FROADER 07-05-2007, 04:30 PM So I'm going to be in Big Bear the 13th - 15th with my dad, uncle and some of their friends. On of their friends wants to test out the new Xterra so we'll be doing a couple trails during the day. If anyone wants to meet up for a day on the trails let me know.
so no exact dates yet? if it ends up the 28-29th i prolly cant go
cybergasm 07-05-2007, 06:11 PM we seemingly can't agree on a date for this run But at the rate were going it'll be a winter run before too long;)
haha i agree. im gonna go without you guys if you don't decide haha
Ritsui 07-05-2007, 11:45 PM So I'm going to be in Big Bear the 13th - 15th with my dad, uncle and some of their friends. On of their friends wants to test out the new Xterra so we'll be doing a couple trails during the day. If anyone wants to meet up for a day on the trails let me know.I'm always here and will probably be available, although my locker may or may not be in before then.
If it's not 'official', just PM/email me with a time/location.
Black Goblin 07-07-2007, 02:29 AM I was wondering how much of a difference it makes between and LSD and a Locker. I have an LSD and I haven't had too much trouble crawling things.:D
Ritsui 07-07-2007, 09:10 AM A limited slip is great in sand or snow, but once you lift a tire off the ground it will be useless.

I think I may be up for this, you bringing the Ex? Shoot me the info when you get a chance;)
Black Goblin 07-08-2007, 05:06 PM Well I have broken my drive line taking the truck out to get some gas. I pushed the gas a lil hard and it broke the welds loose on te SOA and it spun my axle. I think I am just gonna squat it back down. Atleast I know I can kick ass at pismo that way :D hehe. Anyone have a spare drive line?
FROADER 07-08-2007, 05:46 PM That sucks, but get it welded correctly and you won't have the problem.
Black Goblin 07-08-2007, 05:48 PM That sucks, but get it welded correctly and you won't have the problem.
I am just gonna put it back to SUA. Atleast I know if I have it that way I know I can jump it all I want and I wont have a problem. I want to be able to jump the dunes at Pismo. I Like the way it handles that way too. I don't have to drive really slow that way.:D
Tbars4 07-08-2007, 08:57 PM i just replied on the pismo thread but didn't know the extent of your drive shaft, bummer...don't forget, pismo is policed...i wouldn't want you to be the first haul off there...;)
FROADER 07-11-2007, 05:46 PM I think I may be up for this, you bringing the Ex? Shoot me the info when you get a chance;)
Dave, now we're not hitting the trails at all... Now (well so I'm told for the time being) is to ride our Mt. Bikes on Bear Mt.
Sorry, pops is pretty indecisive sometimes.
Stic-o 07-11-2007, 06:19 PM hmmm. I'd bust out that MT. Bike and join ya but I'm so out of shape, that I'd probally colapse after the first few hundered feet:(
FROADER 07-11-2007, 06:25 PM It's all downhill. Ride the chairlift up.
Tbars4 07-11-2007, 06:40 PM lol, the california way to mountain biking, ride the chairlift up, rofl, classic...:D
Stic-o 07-11-2007, 07:09 PM It's all downhill. Ride the chairlift up.
see, that's where I'm not so gutsy anymore. My Gary Fisher is a old hardtail with no suspension.:( A little ruffer on the ride, besides I know it needs some maintance... Like new brake pads and stuff.

No problem Colin...my buddy has my tandem cruiser at his house, wonder how that would do on the downhills. It's even got a springer front end:p:
Have fun out there:thumbsup:
FROADER 07-11-2007, 11:26 PM I don't know how good it would do, but it would be funny as hell to watch you guys try it!! :D
Tbars4 07-11-2007, 11:28 PM froader, be sure to film it...:D
FROADER 07-11-2007, 11:30 PM I just talked to my dad. We might duct tape a cam to my helmet... :D
Tbars4 07-11-2007, 11:32 PM roflmao, and you will be following the tandem daredevils??....lol
And back to this run...
So should we reschedule this for August? I'm pretty much sticking to local runs for the rest of the summer since I may have potential motor problems arising...more of a "just in case factor".
Dates? I'm open any weekend in Aug. except for the first weekend.
Also, who's gonna camp and where?
Ritsui 08-26-2007, 10:14 PM or maybe... September?
Would be nice to get something going on before Truckhaven.
I'm currently open every weekend but Labor Day and can go for a day run or camp.

I'm done till t-haven...got wayyyy to much to do and not enough time:(
cybergasm 08-27-2007, 02:26 AM I might be down for something before Truckhaven depends on how fast I can get the new used motor in my Explorer :D
