I woke up after 1 1/2 hours of sleep this morning with a phone call at 3:00 am by the police. when they asked me if
I owned a red ford explorer.........I knew. they broke my passenger door window and popped out the center AC directors, and easily took my unit. they unplugged it neatly, and no broken plastic, they were done within minutes. I pay for a spot a block away, and when I got there, there were 7 squad cars. what are you going to do,these things do happen.I have a viper remote start alarm, but I think it's not loud enough,WELL...in the morning I'm getting some air horns installed for the alarm siren !!!!!!!!

damn bill, sorry to hear that man. Wouldn't ya like to find the culprits? :shoot: Have ya thought about maybe getting a good head unit with a removable face? Some, not all, have a face that can ONLY be used with it's original unit. I have one myself, Panasonic DF-88. It even flashes an LED light when the face is removed so some jerk will see that the face is not there. Seems to work pretty good for me! Again, sorry bout you tunes man! Let us know how ya make out!

That really sucks, That Panasonic sounds like a good idea, but also have you thought about putting some scanners (they are like 5 LED lights in a row that flash back and forth) by your windows to show that you have an alarm. Also my friend has a 4Runner with a Viper in it and he has sensors everywhere, like in his brush guards, etc.. I also like the air horn idea, if a thief hears that he will run.

Man, that blows...

Over the MLK weekend last January, my Explorer was broken into while staying with my cousin in Tuscaloosa, AL. Whoever did it was looking for stuff to pawn, apparently. The logic of what they took though, defies even me. The thieves left my $300 leather jacket, $150 calculator (well, what are theives going to do with that? Calculus?), and my cell phone. The only thing they stole was my pack of Wintergreen Trident. Go figure. The idiots left their fingerprints all over my laminated maps and my Oakleys (which they broke in half, the bastards). They ended up stealing a brand new Montero Sport two doors down, later recovered (out of gas). Morons. Also learned that my security alarm is bogus...it never went off (it supposedly came with window sensors).

I've had 2 systems ripped off of my old jeep. That's actually why I bought the Shadow. So my stuff wouldn't be as easy a targer. I'd like to see someone try to steal my current head unit. They'd have to rip off the panneling behind the driver to get to the brain, rip open the dash to get to the bracket that holds it to the fire wall, ect. Let us know what happens with the insurance company.

I have the scanner installed in the car.I'm thinking they may come back, they took some loose cd's that were in the console next to my changer, they had the sliding door of the changer open, but did not take the 10 cd's that were in the cartridge, they never looked in the overhead console either,my revos were in the sunglass compartment, never looked under the seat where the alpine amp was, unless they just ran out of time.the guy must have cut himself on the glass,he got blood in a few areas inside
hope he bleeds to death.......slow
I need to get another kenwood unit though to control my changer,I was looking at at the 900 series, forgot the #,you can set some kind of a code somehow, but I'm waiting a few weeks before I get it,and when I do,I'm also putting some interior high pitch horns under the dash, and under the seats, they are supposed to really be a problem for the theives. I'll let you guys know
and thanks !!!

Yeah i had my stuff jacked from me too. They took my 800a4. They tried getting my subs, but could, so they poked holes in my subs and stole my cd player remote. They didn't even take my leather jaket ($250) or all of my cd's (like a little over 100 of them). I had an alarm and it was stolen from school in the middle of the day with my alarm blaring. They didn't get my cd player but i wish they would have. Its alright though man you will get a hell of a lot of money from the insurance company. I got like $3,000 for mine. Just keep your head high and don't let it get you down. Cause you can always rebiuld and get better.

You should look into the masking faces. I have a Kenwood KDC 7007 and with the tinted windows you can't even tell there is anything there.

hi ryan,I have tinted windows(pretty dark, 35%),and my buddies seem to think that 's what made them go in in the first place, and what a mistake I made by leaving the removeable face in the glove box ,but you live and you learn......

Yeah theives look for people with tinted windows, wheels, and anyother chrome parts. Because if you have darker then normal windows it mean your hiding something. The mask are pretty good but if a theive knows you have a cd player then he can still steal it and it would still be able to operate after he steals it. I would just get a good detactable face and carry the face eveywhere.

The newest Kenwood's come with a masking-removable face, so if you go into the store or something you can just let if flip around or at night you can take it with you. You can get them through Crutchfield but they are always cheaper at a local shop, plus you can bargain. I have 15% tints on mine so it's pretty much pitch black.

I'm not sure,if maybe he broke my changer as well,??? I tried to get the cartridge out,and the button does not work.
when he took the radio, would that take away the power to the changer ???,cause he could not get the cartridge out either.hope it's just a power supply thing.

Hey Bill I'd almost put money on that the power for the changer does come throught the head unit...so then that is probably why it won't open. How ya making out w/the insurance company? Hope ya get new stuff soon!

Sorry to hear that! That is another thing that really chaps my hide. I have the tinted windows and all that too but mine always gets hit. I tell you one thing, if you don't want it stolen take it out. Most crooks will break in even if you have a detachable face. They figure 1: you might have the face in the glove box 2: if it is a tape deck you might have a cd changer or loose cds. Any more I take every thing out of mine. The alarm doesn't help. no one ever pays attention to them anymore cause they are so common. I did notice one thing though. Once I took off my CB antena and made the outside look stock I haven't been hit in a while. (knock on wood) But really the more you can make it look like stock on the outside the less it will happen. I know a few guys who used to do that crap and the first thing they look for is shinny parts like wheel covers and fog lights. If anything looked more than just average on the rig it was bound to get hit. Hope you get everything back with the insurance company, sorry to that happend too!
