I think the A/C guy said that R22 will be phased out by something like 2010. The R410A being a good refrigerant, with Puron being the ideal one in the future.

My landlord is going to pay for this. I pry will pitch in some.

I plan to pry move out of this townhouse next summer or so.

I don't want to have him get a POS unit, only to have issues later. He does not even have A/C in his own house :p:

My neighbor paid around $3500 for their A/C

Choice # 3 sounds good while choice # 6 might be a little better.

From what I've read.. Each 1 SEER increase is almost 10% savings.. So #6 does seem better than #3..

Also, from the reading I've been doing on Refridg sites (for installers etc), even though r-22 is going to be phased out, it will still be around for quite a while (like r-12 was).. at least thats what the installers are saying (they are installing r-22 systems in their own homes).

We are at the "thinking" phase of changing our 5 Ton 10 SEER Heat pump (ac/heater single unit) with a 14 SEER. We were even looking at the geothermal ones, but the unit+install for us would be almost $11k (regular heat pump is about $6k for us).

BUT.. The biggiest thing to look for when getting an a/c put in isn't price or what they say they will give you.. Its reputation.. Get References and see how they did.. Thats really what your paying for..
