We have a shared well for 8 homes and the booster pump just went out. 3k for parts and labor:eek: Gets better. The well repair guy told my neighbor, who is the well manager, that the shared 2500 gallon water tank has been infiltrated by tree roots. Plus there's a leaky supply line, and some other plumbing issues. Total estimate to fix the whole mess is between 5000.00 - 8000.00:eek: We have a repair fund for well repairs, but we only have about 1800 in there. So we all have to kick in the rest, or go without water.

The good news... We have a pump and 1700 gallon tank on our property just for our house:thumbsup: We're good for a week or so.

The booster pump is easy to replace.. just cash/carry the pump.. But the burried tank problem is bad and a pain to fix.. supply line fix is a simple fix if you can get to it. Oh.. one upgrade we did to our community well was to put on two booster pumps.. one brings the water from 40-60psi and it the water drops below 40psi the 2nd pump turns on. We have one pump that died but even with the dead pump (and most everyone having their own storage tank) eveyone is still getting water just like they did before. The new pump for us is about $1500 cash/carry.. Its a 3hp pump (our spare is also a 3hp but the spare gives more volume, less pressure).

If you are going to end up hauling water for a while I have a 300 gallon tank you can borrow (300 gallons is 3 or so days if you have low flow stuff in the house) that will fit in a small trailer or decent sized pickup.

I also have a 750 gallon tank you could borrow if you have some way of carrying it (flat bed car trailer works).. you could borrow that and not have to haul water so often.. To get the water from hauling tank into your tank should be pretty easy to do (HFT sells some small water pumps that would work)..

One other thing.. If you guys have an official well company (we finally made our wellshare a well company) you can try to get a low interest loan from the department of rural development (its not a fast process).. I can get you the info if you need it.

BTW.. we are a 501c(12) company (tax exempt) which makes it easier in some repects to get things done.

You should not have to haul water. The well pump can be used to fill satalite storage tanks if the system is plumbed that way, or you can run a temporary line around the storage tank and booster pump. You will need to run the system manually and check with and it is a short term fix. The well pump is not intended for frequent short runs. Just remeber, disenfect new pipes with a 1-200 dilution with bleach (soak for 4-hour) and flush, til the chlorine smell is gone .

If Ricks community well system is setup anything like ours, water will need to be hauled at least from the Well to his house. If we were to loose anything around the booster system (or both community tanks) we could run the deep well pumps to bring the water up into a transfer tank and then bring the transfer tank to the house and dump the water into our own tank.

I don't think all of Ricks neighbors have tanks (he was watering the lawn one day when they didn't have water) so I doubt his system will be down for too long, but from experience I can tell you that getting $1k from each family in a hurry for a well repair ain't gonna be easy.

Well, we have 7 of 8 people confirmed for 1000.00. He hasn't been able to get a hold of the 8th person yet. Work starts tomorrow... Our old tank is being ripped out and we're getting a new stainless steel job.

Rick,
Can I have some of your neighbors? I had to talk to our laywers just to get some of the people to pay their normal $25/month.

I just found out yesterday that the 8th home is going to be foreclosed on, so he won't be paying his share. We have $1800 in our repair fund. We will pull his $1000 from that and then rebuild the fund.

The system was installed yesterday and looks fantastic compared to what we had. The old tank was thin wall fiberglass. It had been breached by tree roots and was a mess. It was also only 2500 gallons. Our new tank is stainless steel and 5000 gallons. Much better:D

Rick,
Are you the envy of your neighbors? Each time there is a well issue you and Char still have water.

You have no idea... The well managers face changes as he talks to me about the well going down, leaving "us" without water. The change comes when he realizes that "we" aren't going to be without water at all;)

Once again, I'm glad I asked, and took your advice!!
