View Full Version : Fake Fireplace Logs

Anyone have any experience with these?

Mrs Shamaal doesn't want her tootsies getting cold and even though she has a new titanium knee doesn't want to bend over to push the light button.

What I'm looking for are fake logs with a remote igniter for vented natural gas. Right now they're running about $700.

The logs are ceramic for Pete's sake, I'll settle for concrete. These things cost more than an entire hot water heater. Is this another one of those industries waiting for some Chinese company to come in, undercut the price by 50% and dominate the market?

Anyone with any experience with these things?

I got one last winter and it was only ~$450. I'll take a pic, give me a few.

I thought the same thing as you Shamaal-until my parents bought one.
By golly-after it heats up it radiates heat very well, and looks pretty dog gone real IMO. There is a special "fiber wool" material you place over the burner-it glows like coals while it is burning.

I'll ask which brand they had, although it is still in the house they just sold.
I'd say they used it over 10 years with no change--and no mess.

The "kit" didn't go together like the pictures showed it was supposed to, so I arranged it how it would work the best.

It heats up the room real nice, and it's an open area.

Nice pictures Froader.

Are these the ones with the remote igniter (press a button and it turns on)? If so, any brand information or particulars would help,

I had to install one in a fireplace when the new emissions standards went into effect in the county where it was located. I have a remote control, and with rock wool, vermiculite and somejudicious placement I have to admit the effect isn't half bad. All that is issing is the crackling, and someone makes a soundtrack I understand. That was a little far out for me.

Does the remote control do the ignition and the flame adjustment or just the flame adjustment?

Ours turns on with a switch that was placed in the wall. There is a adjustment on ours for the flame height.

My remote is simply on and off, flame height is a manual control within the fireplace. Mine is a few years old though.
