Brian1 10-02-2000, 10:10 AM Wow Goober, that looks super nice! I think the paint makes a ton of difference.
4x4Hunter 10-02-2000, 10:57 AM Nice looking Explorer. I've got a 91'..working on the same look ... well similar. I need to come up with just over a grand to finish up mine. Till then the RS9000's and Superlift kit stay in the garage.
Again. Nice Ride
93exploder 10-02-2000, 02:58 PM what lift and what size tires/rims are those ? Looks sweet !
Goober 10-02-2000, 04:02 PM It is a 4"Superlift, 32x11.5 BFG KO's and AR172 Baja rims. You can also check out other things added by clicking on 'profile'.
DarkFox1 10-03-2000, 04:46 PM nice work man, looks really good
ScottXXL 10-03-2000, 05:44 PM Great looking truck. I will be doing the same too, although mines black. Where did you get your brush guard? It looks great. How much? I need it!
newbz 10-04-2000, 09:33 PM Awesome truck!
2001ExpSport 10-05-2000, 08:00 PM Looks really nice goober, really nice.
Perry 10-05-2000, 09:49 PM Goober, did you do the paint yourself? How about the lift?
Trucks looks nice!!!
Lot better then stock
rock883 10-05-2000, 10:04 PM Hey man, looks great, sort of similar to mine, excpept for the 4" instead of my 3" body, and you have 32's I have 31's, but I have what looks to be that exact brush guard. I bought it about a week ago for only $50 used, and it looks almost exactly like yours. I really like your explorer and that is basically why I got the brushguard because I saw how yours looked and I loved the look, well tha and it was only $50. It only needed some paint and some bolts.
Goober 10-19-2000, 12:56 PM Me paint?...hahaha. I did paint the black on the grill, mirrors, wipers and pieces from the roof to the body( whatever there called), but I won't even lie and say I did it myself.
Gimp, I agree 100%, that combo is nasty!(red/sliver) and with it peeling off all over the place, it didn't help matters either. The reason for the grey I choose was to compliment the interior as well as be able to blend to the door jams without having to repaint everything. Since everything on the truck is now grey or black( except the rims), the outside looks good and the interior is also shades of grey going to black. I think it all goes together pretty well.
Rock, I wish I only paid $50 for mine. If you want something that will last for a long time, consider coating it with Herculiner. It will take a beating before coming off.
Thanks for the comments guys......
wilk1 10-20-2000, 12:15 PM Thats one good looking pup Goob. Can't believe it's the same truck in the first pic!
Great job,
Jason
95ExplorerLtd 11-29-2000, 10:02 PM I love it Goob! Gives me something to shoot for after my street rod project is completed. Just gimme about 4 or 5 years and then I'll buy me another Explorer. So about how tall is it sittin now? I wanna get me a black one with clear corners and chrome all around. Well gotta run, lata
Grant
TheMissin'Link 12-15-2000, 09:40 AM Wow, you did an amazing job! It's huge transformation! You said in your profile that you have a safari rack...do you have any pictures with it on?
It looks great!
Goober 12-18-2000, 08:39 AM I don't know how tall it is. I didn't do a before and after measurement. It is a 4" suspension lift and the tires probablt give it another 1" or so. Tall enough for the wife to gripe about having trouble climbing in...wah, wah, wah...:)
I do have a roof rack, but I can't get into the garage with it on. Since I like parking inside during the cold weather.... I'll stick it on again this summer with the lights attached and take some pics. The gears are stock LS 3.73's.
Goober 01-18-2001, 01:51 PM Thanks to group purchase #1, PIAA lights now took the place of the Hella FF's on my brushguard. Here's the new 120W lights that light up the road. I have one more set to get then I'll put the roof rack back on and have 6 PIAA Pro 80 XT's facing traffic......... Ok, Mr. I-don't-wanna-turn-my-brights-off.......prepare for retinal annihilation 5..4..3.. BWAHHAAHAHAHA

TheMissin'Link 01-18-2001, 06:57 PM Hey Goober-
Those lights look awesome! In fact, the truck just looks plain awesome. I can't wait to see it with all of those PIAA's and the roof rack!
Isles4evr 01-26-2001, 12:05 AM Rig looks nice man. I love that brush guard... what type is it? I have been debating a tube bumper or a brush guard... and I think that brush guard wins. By any chance do you think you could mount a winch on it?
Thanks
Chris
Goober 01-26-2001, 10:54 AM The brushguard is from Manik. I don't know if the guard could hold up under a winch pull or not. It is frame mounted, but I wouldn't pull with it. It is sturdy, I have plowed a few trees over with it(my backyard) and a deer ran out in front of me one night and it didn't even dent the tubes(deer ran off).I think when I get a winch I'll get the front reciever that will for sure hold it and I could move it to the back if needed.
Isles4evr 01-26-2001, 05:47 PM Alright sounds good to me buddy.... looks like I'll be getting a brush guard after my tint...
Thanks
Chris
jason_omer 02-27-2001, 06:08 PM How much did your paint job se t you back??
I'm in the market for and explorer and the late model colors are quite BLAH to say the least. I was tihnking of getting one and painting it. Did you clear coat?
What do you think of a mustang yellow explorer??
BTW- i love your truck.
I'll put some pics up when i get some headway on my project.
Goober 02-28-2001, 09:05 AM A yellow Explorer.......Hey! Why not. Rick's is known as the 'Great Pumpkin', yours could be the 'Mighty Lemon' j/k... The paint job was just over $1000 and it was a basecoat-clearcoat and comes with a lifetime warranty from fading or peeling. I know how much the paint and extras cost the shop(I know the owner) and that they had 2 guys working on it for a solid 40 hours from start to finish. I know they didn't make a whole lot off that job. The hood and roof were in real bad shape(peeling prob) and had to be totally stripped. I looked at going the Macco(quoted me $650) or other cheaper places, but the quality of the job for a few hundred more was well worth it. If you plan on keeping it for a while, don't go the cheap way. You'll only get what you pay for and, it will cost you more in the long run. Hope to see pics of the M.L. soon :)
jason_omer 02-28-2001, 11:41 AM THanx man
around $1000 is what i was figuring so that's goof for me that it wasn't more. 8-)
I'm in college and don't have a huge cash flow.
After the summer i will have an admirable explorer and i'll get some pics up ASAP.
I love the site guys. Keep up the good work
Dennis Brown 03-05-2001, 03:51 PM I have a 91 XLT with fading paint and loss of the clearcoat on areas of the roof and hood. I guess it's to be expected living in the south and having to park at work in no shade whatsoever. I am planning a new paint job, lift and new tires/wheels. What paint did you use for the wipers, mirrors and posts between the windows? I have been tempted to buy a can of black spray paint and go at it.
How do you like your tires? Do you drive mainly on pavement or do a fair amount of offroading? Any rubbing problems with the 4" lift?
Sorry for the long list of questions but I really like the look of your truck and want to make a lot of the same upgrades you have.
Dennis
Goober 03-05-2001, 04:11 PM Thanks Dennis, glad you like it.
The paint for the black area was just a semi-gloss(Rustoleum,Krylon-one of those). Just ensure the entire area is covered from overspray. The BFG KO's are great. Not a lot of noise, great traction. Sling mud pretty well and grip very well. I drive about 80 miles a day on the Interstate and they ride pretty good(at 32psi). The 4" lift from Superlift, so far hasn't given me any problems. It does rub a tad while under full compression and making a sharp turn. One of these days I'll look where it's rubbing and try to fix it, but it doesn't rub on the body(metal) so I can live with it. Any more Q's , just ask away.
jimbo74 03-05-2001, 04:23 PM hey goober i love your truck. keep posting the pics. maybe even some off road ones...
Goober 03-05-2001, 04:27 PM What!! You mean actually go off road and get DIRT on my 4x4...LOL. I'll get some next time I go to play after I get the hubs done.
Goober 09-11-2001, 10:06 AM For anyone who cares to see the pictures that won't show up, click on the 'Jeff's Truck' line at the bottom.
Cancel that, I finally got off my hinny and uploaded them to another photo holder. www.imagestation.com
As some of you may know, I had my truck repainted a few years back. Looked pretty good until a year later when the hood and roof started to fad again. After battling back and forth, the paint company has agreed to repaint the truck( the whole truck..read on) and as they do not have the paint code, will let me choose the color to be used. I could paint it close to the same color it already is or....
Which is a 2001 Mustang color called Mineral Grey Clearcoat Metallic
http://www.fordvehicles.com/images/cars/mustang_2001_paint_large_4.jpg
Any comments, suggestions?? and keep in mind I have the multi-colored grey/black interior.
If no other suggestions, I'll post the new pics after it's all done.
fordkrazy 10-05-2001, 08:02 PM man i parked next to a mustang just like the one in the pic yesterday and well i started to drool. that is one good looking color. looks like it wouldn't be quite as durable as other colors.
Goober 12-06-2001, 01:58 AM Just got back from the body shop.. here's the 'We're still not ready with your truck after 3 weeks' shot. Again , the paint company is footing the bill and I'm driving a 2002 car around while they are doing this, so...
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid28/p871c6cc03fa0cb5cd30f85b749348efa/fe174de2.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid28/p15e60b1ddc76ffee90116d42bcd41c64/fe174c9e.jpg
The color was almost the same, but as you can/may be able to tell, it came out a little darker than the other. Still..it looks pretty darn good. If you could see it up closer, you know what I mean. I'll post the finished ones in about a week..(when they are "supposed" to finally have it back together. We shall see!
BoatsRcool 12-06-2001, 03:21 PM sup goob. man.. yours still looks bigger than mine.. but i got about .25 inches more! haha. does yours tun a lot of head? i get a lot of "ass hole" looks mostly from guys my age in escorts or something.. and it not cuz my driving hopefully haha.

Goober 12-14-2001, 11:49 PM FINALLY!!
The truck( yes, TRUCK.. LOL) is out of the body shop at last. It only took 4 weeks and 3 days to complete. Looks damn good though. I should have some pics after this weekend to post, just in case anyone wanted to see.
Goober 12-17-2001, 04:37 PM Ok, well, no dramatic changes, but it really does look quite a bit better. Total bill to the paint company.... $4326.82 (I had the rental car for over 4 weeks)
I also had them repair a few spots of rust in front of both rear wells and replace both front outer door handles(busted springs)- I paid for the labor and handles and that was it.
Well????
