View Full Version : What do you think: electric turbo, 2 - 3 lbs of boost?
Shylock 12-10-2007, 08:16 PM So I was browsing ebay and found and electric turbo:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230199525729
Claiming to produce 2 - 3 lbs of boost. What do you guys think? Garbage or what?
Seems cheap enough and a quick install that I would be willing to try it just to see.
Thanks for your comments.
02dubs 12-10-2007, 08:18 PM JUNK!! you'll prolly get 2x more power running 93 octane hahaha
Willard 12-10-2007, 08:20 PM I guess theoretically it could work but I smell a rat :shifty_ey
Exploderpilot 12-10-2007, 10:22 PM do some research into how fast turbos spin. then find an electric motor that spins that fast. no Fing way it's 70 bucks....
Willard 12-10-2007, 10:24 PM Kinda what I thought
manaen 12-10-2007, 10:30 PM it's a POC. Don't fall for it, there is NO WAY that thing is building 2 to 3 PSI, not even at idle!! and it will probably draw more power to run the motor than it will make.
Looks like they took a standard squirrel cage fan and painted it black. Squirrel cages move lots of air, but make little to no PSI not like a real turbo would.
As EP said look into how fast turbos and blowers spin....
Shylock 12-11-2007, 01:49 AM Ya I kinda figured - but there is this little guy standing on my shoulder saying "buy it anyway!":D
Exploderpilot 12-11-2007, 01:57 AM you know what, if it were 20 bucks, i would say go ahead just for grins, but 67 dollars? they should be ashamed of themselves. Do you know how many vodka tonics and mcchickens that will buy?
Shylock 12-11-2007, 06:11 AM Good point! Actually I didn't notice that pic at first, where you see the side view and the fins... it's totally just a squirrel cage. :(
Mmmm McChicken sauce on fries
So much info on this site. I think I'm going to do the brown wire mod for kicks and also have been reading up on the aussie locker for the back end seem like an inexpensive way to boost performance.
gijoecam 12-11-2007, 08:12 AM If it looks like a POS and smells like a POS and... You get the point. If it really was that simple, why don't you find that setup on any vehicle from the factory? There's a reason nobody uses it...

Very true. You just can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh** no matter how much mayonnaise you use.
