View Full Version : Need Help Wiring My New PIAA 520's

Okay I hope this isn't too dumb a question but I am reading the directions about connecting the wires directly to the battery and I have a white wire and a black wire but neither one is labeled as being the positive wire. Does it matter; can I hook it up either way? Or do I need to connect a certain color to each battery terminal. I assume black would be ground and white positive??? Would appreciate a prompt answer so I can get this done tonight.

Thanks!

Gerald,
The white wire is hot, the Black wire is ground. http://members.aol.com/riffman80/hammer.gif

Well, that's what I thought too. But everything is hooked up and the lights are dead. I've got nothing. What if I tried the other way? Would I blow the relay and/or lights?

It's a very simple wiring. I do not understand why I don't have lights.

I'm not sure but on the more powerful lights you also need to pull off the caseing and ground the lights them selves, not just the relay and switch. Give this a check.

DOH!
I got it. There is a third lead from the switch that I thought was an alternate lead to use my existing foglamp switch, but it is actually a power lead to the switch. I have to hook that up too. I didn't hook it up because I thought it was only if I wanted to use another switch besides the PIAA switch.

Gerald, sorry I didn't get this earlier, I was at class... anyways, you are correct, that wire needs to be hooked up to a power source that is your switch power, such as radios, headlights, etc. My mom says "some guy from texas called and wants an answer to a PIAA question" LOL

Gerald,
Did you get the driving lights or the fog lights? Where did you put them? I put mine on the winch guard. Glad to hear they are working now. http://members.aol.com/riffman80/smoking.gif

I got the fogs. I'm not into Baja-ing and wanted something to light up all around at rockcrawling speeds. The factory fogs on my EB are awesome, but I remove them when I hit the trail. They are down low and either get broken or filled with water on river crossings, and replacing them is about $75 each. So I bought these to use when my factory fogs are off. They are mounted on my WAAG right where they belong.

I even know the number! :) Course I wouldn't sell it out to anyone without seeing at least a $100 bill from them first. I would even split it with Matt 50/50. :)

hey matt, where might i be able to find the best deal on a set of black 520 fogs? can i use them in town or on the highway without blinding people/getting harrassed by the police?

well it depends on if you get the fogs or the driving lights... I have the fogs... Gerald has the fogs... Ray Lobato has the riving lights. I often use the fogs in town because of that exact reason, they don't blind people but give great ligth in front of the vehicle (not a mile down the road like some of the other lights, but great for up close light). Best deal? I don't know.. I think carparts has a decent rate if you can find the 33% off coupon... 4wheelparts.com carries them as do many other companies. Best thing to do is shop around, do a search on the net for PIAA 520, you'll find all kinds of stuff and probably big differences in price.
