View Full Version : Is my mounting spot ok? newbz 10-10-2000, 10:50 PM Hi, I bought some cheap driving lights by the brand BLAZER and I mounted them underneath the bumper....is this alright? They work alright and all but this wont mess anything up will it? mattadams 10-10-2000, 10:54 PM how do you mean mess anything up? The only things I could see it messing up are 1 - Aerodynamics, which suck so bad on the Explorer's you'd never notice anyway 2 - they might be the first thing to get hit if your doing any rock-crawling or baja racing 3 - they might be the first thing to get hit should you rear end someone and there little lowered crx rides right under your bumper, but the hood barely catches the fog lamps :). Other then that,s houldn't really "mess anything up". Brian1 10-10-2000, 11:44 PM Hey newbz, I had my cheap lights mounted under the bumper for a long time(see pic). Did some moderate 4 wheelin' and didn't even break them. Although, when I pulled into my garage one day, one of them broke and was dangling by the wires!! I went to the store and bought another $8 set and then mounted them in the same place for about a month until I got my brush guard to put them on. http://home.att.net/~explorer4x4/LIGHTSUNDER.JPG Can you send me an e-mail with your e-mail address. I lost it. I keep trying to put together some day & weekend runs with Scott and Robbie near Albuquerque. I can alert you when we have one planned if I have your e-mail. Thanks. [Edited by Brian1 on 10-10-2000 at 08:55 PM] newbz 10-11-2000, 06:06 PM Ahahahahaha the PIAA's are my lowrider killers, its cool when everyone moves out of your way going down the street cause they are blinded I guess.......my email is cardcyriz@leenux.com ....my truck is in the shop now, getting some things replaced Brian1 10-11-2000, 06:59 PM Thanks, you can erase your e-mail now if you want to. Seems like everyone's rig is in the shop having something or other done to it even mine (starting tomorrow I am changing the shift rail plugs). It probably won't be until 2 or more weeks until we can all get out for a run. Mr. Daylighter 10-11-2000, 10:54 PM I like that "lowrider killers". Yeah, I can do that too, but then again, I can just about kill anything on the road. The problem with me tryin to "blind" one person is that I end up blindin everybody within a 3 mile radius...lol http://media.f150world.com/world/gallery/Mudder/Mvc-002s.jpg Somebody with brights behind me, no problem http://www.zing.com/picture/p457b45df9e4de4d2e4409eb4c505d64b/ff5c73d8.jpg Alec 10-12-2000, 05:53 AM You're rivaling Matt with all those lights. I count at least 16. You've spent more in lights than I've spent on power mods! (except the headers) Mr. Daylighter 10-12-2000, 10:58 AM Yeah, 16 at the moment. But when I'm finally done I will have 21. I'm still workin on my reverse light bar for the roll bar, (holds four 165 watt Daylighters) which is pictured above. Also addin two KC fog lights right below where those 5x7 square ones are, then addin one more 165 watt Daylighter on the front. Gotta make a new bar for the front to hold the five. But I think when I'm all done it will look pretty good. If I was really nuts, I could double stack them on the roll bar, with six on six, but that would be too much.... mattadams 10-12-2000, 11:02 AM too much light? Come on now... LOL. You know since you do all the custom stuff, you could actually add some above your current ones on your brush guard... so they would be able to be seen from the driver, you know where I'm talking? I'm pretty sure you could fit AT LEAST 8 across the whole brushguard. Unfortanetly I can't get more lights facing forward without putting them on top of hte brush guard, the Explorers just don't have as much width as the F-150's. Besides... its not the quantity... :) Mr. Daylighter 10-12-2000, 11:10 AM Well, I know what you are talking about but I don't really like that. I've seen it on one F150 and didn't really like it. By the way, I have a quick question for you. I'm thinkin about gettin those PIAA superwhite headlights, I have the superwhites that I got from the F150online store but don't think they are that bright. Are they pretty good, I want the brightest headlights that I can get, are these the ones? I heard some others talking about them, but I figured I'd ask you since you would know better. Just let me know, cause I might get them. Also, what is the number for the F150, 9005??? I forgot. Thanks. Patrick mattadams 10-12-2000, 11:20 AM Mr. Daylighter - the F-150's use 9007's. They are much better then the ones in the f150online.com store IMHO. Those ones looked just like regular bulbs dipped in blue tint. Enter the contest to win the free 9007's, though it ends tomorrow :). Of all the replacement headlights I've seen, there the brightest, but I haven't seen many brands, so I'm partial :). Mr. Daylighter 10-12-2000, 11:26 AM Thanks Matt, I'll probably get them then. How do I enter the contest, need my email? Here it is mudder46@hotmail.com kubben 10-12-2000, 11:34 AM Is that is a Tx4x4 Arlington Chapter sticker on the back? mattadams 10-12-2000, 11:35 AM Mudder, go to the thread entitled "FREE SET OF PIAA 9007's, ENDS OCTOBER 13TH!!!" in the PERFORMANCE Lighting section, respond in there with your name, that's it...
