During the Slabs run I realized I need a CB. I am looking at one in the Summit Racing catalog on P. 272. It is a small Cobra CB Part number COB-C19ULTRA11 For $49.95. Is this a Good CB and also is it small enought to fit inside of my center console.

I never used this cb, but I do know that cobra cb's are great. I myself use the "hidden mic" cb and I love it. The range on these smaller ones is a bit less than some expensive ones though. What do you expect though. For trail driving though small ones work great. Most of the time you don't need to be searching through channels for people. You know what channel they're on and more than not they're right in front of you.

Besides....cb's are a must for any trail driving anyways. I'd say go for it.

Kris,
The dimensions on that 19ultra is 4-9/16" x 1-3/4" x 6-5/8"
This is the same as the 19DX II. I looked at both of them and could not find any differance between the 2. As far as I'm concerned, they are the same thing only named differant. Bill's 2-way (http://www.garlic.com/bills2way/equip/CBradio.html#Cobra) has the 19DX II for $43.00

Kris,

The best way to wire CB's is to run a pair of wires (one+, one-) directly to the respective posts of the battery. This accomplishes two things: 1. Reliability in emergencies when you might need the CB to get help. It is powered independently of any other accessories, so electrical problems and blown fuses on any other circuit won't disable the radio....only total battery failure. 2. Direct connection to the Battery helps eliminate some sources of static interference picked up on a shared circuit. The direct wires should be at least 12 ga. ( I prefer #10), and fused (10A) ON BOTH SIDES, +and -, as near the battery as possible. Twist the wires on one another with about 4 turns or twists per foot where the wires run through the engine compartment, this helps cancel electrical fields and therefore static from the engine electrical and ignition system. Also keep any fuses near the radio that the manufacturer supplies (about 3A) in the circuit as well. Be sure to carry spare fuses for both sizes.

The downside?.... you have to remember to turn off the CB radio when you park the car for longer periods of time, say overnight +, as it can run the battery down !

Hope this helps.

Kris, I just installed a CB that I purchased at Radio Shack in my Sport Trac! I also upgraded to the pa system on it. This is working great for me. I installed it very nice. No wires can be found and eveything is nice and clean! You might go check your local radio Shack, since they will have everything you need right there in the store.
