Has anyone been successful in installing a dual exhaust on a 06-08? I was under my friends "new" 06 and things are pretty tight under there. Looks like it can be done by junking the spare tire.... anyone have any luck?

Doesn't look so bad if your lowered but it still looks a little fugly from the rear. bentley 01-29-2008, 09:39 PM I looked into it when i was upgrading my exhaust. You have to lose the spare to fit the duals. twisted22 01-29-2008, 10:17 PM Although I am a big fan of dual exhaust I think the magnaflow system deserves a serious look as an alternative. I helped a buddy put a system on his truck last weekend and talk about impressive, wow. I will be ordering mine as soon as I can scrape together a bit of extra jingle in my pocket. I think Bentleys sound clip says it all. Sams01XplrSprt 01-29-2008, 11:22 PM I got dual exhaust on my 01 sport and i still got my spare underneath my explorer. AndyInFlorida 01-29-2008, 11:44 PM I got dual exhaust on my 01 sport and i still got my spare underneath my explorer. Sam, there's kind of a lot of difference in your truck and an '06+. X DEACON 02-20-2008, 07:00 PM I just saw a 2007 V8 EX with duals on cardomain. Look on Cardomain under 2007 Ford Explorer rides. www.sounddomain.com. Damn my guy told me it couldn't be done. CHiNO_PeLoNCiTo 03-16-2008, 11:52 AM YES THERE CAN!!!!! I talked to a dude that says that it can be done but if ur 4x4ing then you might want to keep it a single. Like they said, you will have to go under the axle but if you do it right it will look NICE! Just take a look at a range rover next time you see one and you'll know what im talkin about X DEACON 03-17-2008, 03:49 PM http://pic19.picturetrail.com/VOL1063/3936190/8151188/309025677.jpg X DEACON 03-17-2008, 07:48 PM This guy, KC really is a talent with exhausts. He is the only guy in the area who will hook you up proper. He has a big reputation for doing custom jobs for Classic and everything in between. Holla at him if you need the work and are in or around Jersey. http://kcscustomexhaust.com/ rocket 5979 03-17-2008, 11:56 PM im not sure how different the 06 is from an 02, but i know that the only way to run dual exhaust on an 02 would be under the rear axel or to relocate the fuel fill tube. i know this because i tried to get dual exhaust on my truck and the shop wasnt able to because they would have had to run the passneger side pipe right next to the fuel fill tube. i actually got under the truck with the guy and looked for myself. You are mistaken. 2.5" Duals can fit through the location where the stocker pipe routes in the Gen3 Explorers. It is tight but is easily doable. I am not familiar with the Gen4 Explorer underbody so I cannot say what issues a person would run into there but a Gen 3 02-05 Explorer duals are doable without going under the axle and will still have proper clearance. If I had a chance to look at the underbody of a Gen4 I could tell you guys what is doable or not. X DEACON 03-18-2008, 04:06 PM As you can see I took out the spare. I did not want to run under the axle. http://pic19.picturetrail.com/VOL1063/3936190/8151188/309025962.jpg Sams01XplrSprt 03-18-2008, 04:19 PM x deacon u got a sound clip of ur dual exhausts X DEACON 03-18-2008, 11:37 PM No, sorrry I don't but believe me it sounds sweeeet! A Wise Guy 03-20-2008, 11:10 PM Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't dual exhaust start at the beginning not the end. Just because you have 2 tips doesn't make dual exhaust. If you came from individual headers or even if the exhaust collected through some sort of H pipe then two tubes out that would be duals. Having a Y pipe after the rear end does not make duals. rocket 5979 03-21-2008, 12:01 AM Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't dual exhaust start at the beginning not the end. I have catback, which yes is considered dual. rocket 5979 03-21-2008, 09:11 PM Actually there are two ways of having duals, catback and true. I have catback, which yes is considered dual. It depends on which cats you are referring to. The main forward cats or the aftercats. As long as you do not Y into a single pipe then you are considered to have dual exhaust. mycaptainchris 04-10-2008, 09:54 AM I've seen a few Sport Tracs (V8 and V6) at the dealership with dual side exit tailpipes. Not a look I like!!! rear exit is the way to go IMHO Sams01XplrSprt 04-19-2008, 02:55 AM anyone got sound clips of there 06 or 07 explorers with dual exhaust Fifty150 07-27-2008, 06:36 AM Am I missing something here? You guys are more worried about looks and sound, as opposed to performance gains? CHiNO_PeLoNCiTo 07-28-2008, 02:43 PM i second that... true duals run from the headers to the rear not a Y pipe. not trying to be a "hater" but its like putting gt bumpers on a v6 mustang... it may look cool, but it still isnt the real thing.... this might be just me, but isnt the thing were looking for when we upgrade the exhaust is increased airflow and performance by removing the restrictive stock exhaust and resonator? Fifty150 07-28-2008, 11:11 PM its like putting gt bumpers on a v6 mustang... it may look cool, but it still isnt the real thing.... this might be just me, but isnt the thing were looking for when we upgrade the exhaust is increased airflow and performance by removing the restrictive stock exhaust and resonator? Well, to be fair, on the late model 4.0L V6 Mustang, a GT rear bumper has two openings as opposed to just one; so that you can build a true dual system with headers, an X-pipe, and mandrel bends. CHiNO_PeLoNCiTo 08-03-2008, 07:13 PM Well, to be fair, on the late model 4.0L V6 Mustang, a GT rear bumper has two openings as opposed to just one; so that you can build a true dual system with headers, an X-pipe, and mandrel bends. the gt mustang is a 4.6L V8.... dont get what u were trying to say ^^. but i think you're missing my point, even when you appear to have duals, via Y-pipe or whatever, it will NEVER be the same as true duals and you will not get the performance gains of true duals, which is the goal of putting on duals in the first place. my bumper analogy was trying to get across that you can put GT bumpers on a v6 mustang to make it look like a GT, but its not, never has been, and never will be a real GT Melon 08-03-2008, 08:56 PM I agree - there's either true dual or fake dual. Fake dual is what you go with to help save money but want the look. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it - but to me, it's not as great as true dual. Which performs better? That's probably a never ending arguement - I just prefer to have true dual over fake dauls if it's possible. Eventually, I'd like to do true duals on my Explorer, but it won't come for a while due to cost. And have to find a local place that can do it and it'll still look good while doing it. -Melon rocket 5979 08-03-2008, 10:15 PM Full headers and custom dual 3" exhaust with custom X pipe for the win! ;) Disclaimer: "Do not try this at home kids..." Stick with dual 2.5" exhaust for a more normal 4.6 Explorer. Melon 08-04-2008, 07:41 PM Disclaimer: "Do not try this at home kids..." Stick with dual 2.5" exhaust for a more normal 4.6 Explorer. Is 2.5" true dual overkill for a stock 4.6 Explorer? Or is it ok? Not looking to do anything now but would like to in the future. I miss the exhaust note when I'm not driving my T-Bird :) -Melon rocket 5979 08-04-2008, 11:17 PM Is 2.5" true dual overkill for a stock 4.6 Explorer? Or is it ok? Back when I first got my Exploder that is the size of exhaust I ran. Melon 08-05-2008, 06:00 PM With the setup that you was running - I remember you had your 2.5" true dual for sale - were you able to leave your spare tire underneath? Or was it moved elsewhere? Thanks -Melon rocket 5979 08-05-2008, 09:10 PM With the setup that you was running - I remember you had your 2.5" true dual for sale - were you able to leave your spare tire underneath? Back when that exhaust was made I didn't care about having a spare so I took it out and ran my pipes back through that area. Melon 08-05-2008, 11:41 PM Dang.. I wondered about the spare tire. Oh well, I can toss it in the back too :D If I had the money (and shipping wouldn't kill me, or be able to come get it myself) I'd do it. -Melon rocket 5979 08-06-2008, 12:05 AM If you take the time you can keep the spare and run 2.5" duals back there. I didn't care about my spare which is why I decided to keep it simple and locate the pipes where they were. jdcstudio 06-27-2009, 03:16 PM As you can see I took out the spare. I did not want to run under the axle. http://pic19.picturetrail.com/VOL1063/3936190/8151188/309025962.jpg how much did it cost you for that setup? |
