The blower fan on the heat pump on my house wont turn off. I have the furnace turned off and it stays running. The only way to turn it off is to toss the breaker that the blower is plugged into. I know zero about heat pumps so I am not sure where to start.

I don't know much either but am guessing it has something to do with the control signal. When you the furnace is turned off I assume you mean by the thermostat? Not the main power, that is.

Turned off at the thermostat and it still runs. Even when I turn off the 220 breaker that runs the heat pump the blower still runs.

Are you turning off the correct breaker? You should have two for your heat pump. One for the heat pump itself ( outdoor unit ) and another for your air handler ( indoor unit ) Which fan is constantly on? the indoor unit fan or the outdoor heat pump fan?

I see you live in CA... is this an all in one roof top unit?

There should also be an emergency disconnect outside at the heat pump you could pull.

but if it is a split system that will only turn off the exterior unit.

Interior fan was the only one running. It quit running on its own so Im not sure what the deal was.

Ok im having the same problem at my drive in.

When the heat kicks off (heat pump that is) the fan keeps running till the heat kicks back on by the thermostat.

Not to take over the thread but its annoying to me to

Most T-stats have a switch for Off/Heat/Cool and then another for the Fan which would read Auto/On .. If the fan switch is in the On position the indoor fan will run all the time and the heating or cooling will just cycle on and off as needed. I personally leave my fan on all the time and cycle my heat/cooling. I do this because I have a few dogs and with regular (every 30 days ) filter changes ( MERV 11 or better) my house doesnt smell like dog @ss.

Also, If the stats were replaced you need to make sure they are the right ones. If your heat pump has two stages of heating then it requires a different stat than one with only one stage. The two stage stats are definately more pricey. If the wrong stat is installed that can lead to being mis wired or the second stage just not being connected.

Sounds like it might be a stuck relay. When you turn on/off the thermostat, the thermostat usually is hooked to a relay which then turns on/off the fan. If that relay locks in the closed position, the fan will stay on until the power is shut off.

I'll second the stuck relay.....I've had this happen and replaced.

I will look into the stuck relay. On the flip side when I put the thermostat on heat / auto or heat / on, the blower fan will run but I don't get any heat. The fan on the outside part won't turn on. not sure if I have power out there yet as I didn't have time to check if I had 220v.

Does anyone know of a good website on heat pumps? I tried google but came up blank.

good website as in to fix them? or to buy them? If your looking to buy one you will need an EPA license to buy one as they come pre charged with refrigerant.
