View Full Version : Sub question
Coasti_sport 02-12-2008, 10:41 AM I'm putting a system into my '00 sport. I want a sub but I really dont want to sacrifice and room in the cargo area (I use it way to much). I've been eyeing the JL Audio stealthbox but I havent heard anything good or bad about them. Anyone have any ideas for adding a little bit of thump without taking up any room?
aznboi3644 02-12-2008, 11:29 AM the JL is ok...overpriced IMO.
Can you build your own enclosure??
Coasti_sport 02-12-2008, 11:41 AM I suppose I could. I've never done it before. How involved is it?
aznboi3644 02-12-2008, 11:47 AM not that hard at all if you have some tools
Coasti_sport 02-12-2008, 11:54 AM I looked on JL's website for the dimensions but couldnt find any. Know where I can find them? I have a huge shop at work I could probably bang it out. Thanks for the input by the way. I really appretiate it.
aznboi3644 02-12-2008, 11:57 AM no problem...well the only way I know of getting a stealth enclosure from JL is from a authorized dealer.
Try to see if crutchfield has them
sjr033 02-12-2008, 11:57 AM There a few guys on here that built their own JL style box. I think they posted a how to as well, with dimensions.
MTX & Q-logic both one that are the same style.
Coasti_sport 02-12-2008, 12:02 PM ok thanks i'll have to do some more investigating
DOZIER 02-12-2008, 12:15 PM Or you could buy mine. It is for sale...JL audio 10w3v1 in a sealed truck wedge box which is in my explorer. Not to big. A definite space saver. I am wanting 50 for the sub in the box and I have an Alpine amp for it to if you are interested at extra cost.
Coasti_sport 02-12-2008, 12:40 PM That sounds really good. Can you shoot me some pics? And some info on the amp? I have been eyeing an alpine amp on ebay that was a really good price. But I'm open to something different. I'm a total noob to systems so I need laymans terms. If You want shoot me up at my email: the_lad09@yahoo.com

those are the only pics on my computer...If you have to have more, I can walk out to the truck later and take some more.
DJ Money 02-12-2008, 02:53 PM What about using a factory box?
aznboi3644 02-12-2008, 03:06 PM hey Coasti I have the perfect solution if you can build your own enclosure.
It is a "Project Pack" from Hexibase. It comes with an 8 inch crossfire subwoofer and enclosure plans for a 4th order bandpass design. Also on the same cd is his "Radiation" cd.
The whole enclosure takes up only 1.5 cu ft. The Project Pack costs 50 dollars with a 15 dollar flat rate shipping fee.
heres more info...he only has one left I think.

Coasti_sport 02-12-2008, 05:25 PM Ok, I know this is going to sound stupid. But what do you mean by a factory box? Dozier I think is going to hook my up with an old 10". I think I can work some magic with that. But thanks for the respnces.
DOZIER 02-12-2008, 05:45 PM Done deal...Lock her down.
catfsh94 03-27-2008, 08:21 PM Maintaining the available cargo space was important to me when I went to upgrade the sound system in my 99 XLT as well. My goal was to utilize the existing sub enclosure and simply replace the sub. I was told by more than one audio store "expert" that it could not be done. They were wrong, it was easy. There is a 3" round indent at the back of the plastic enclosure that I cut out to make room for the larger magnet in the 8" Polk Momo sub. Mounted the new sub in the box, added a Kenwood 150w amp (under the rear seat) and that was it! The bass from the new set-up is awesome!
JL makes great subs and their Stealthboxes perform very well for something that looks integrated and doesn't take up much space. If you have the dough, go for it. I doubt you will be disappointed.
