Does anyone know what color bulbs that cops are leniant about in parking and corner lights in New York? I know they have to be orange but sometimes cops are leniant towards superwhite and clear. Thanks in advance.

What color bulbs do you have in your corners? I wanto to put in superwhite turn signals to match my headlights but I don't want to chance it and get a ticket.

they're superwhites, they give off a very soft white light, not harassing or orange :P but, you need 2 sets 3157 superwhites and 1 set 194s, which can get expensive, considering you hafta order them from someone who carries APC products, for those lenses, and the bulbs it was $101.80 and that was with free shipping, but, if I had the choice to do it again, I would.

Have you had a problem with the different colored bulbs yet?

heh, well today is the 2nd day with them actually, but I haven't had anything unusual.. I mean, people pay as much attention now as they have in the past. I don't see why they would have a problem wiht it

btw, having the 94 and down model of explorer, the clears make a much bigger difference than on mine, check out http://www.autosyndicate.com for some pictures, they have someon a ranger, but you have the same front as them, it looks really good, theres a guy on this forum with them, I just don't remember who.

I was planning on ordering them from http://www.autosyndicate.com anyways because that's the only place that I found them for the earlier model Explorers. I know it doesn't really matter about having the clears because of the fact that alot of cars have them stock already. Now, with all the different bulbs is there a combination that I can use of superwhite bulbs and like one orange bulb to keep it sort of legal? Like having the two inside bulbs white and the one on the side orange, something along those lines.

I guess that would work, but wouldn't it look funny? some people get the clears and do all orange bulbs, it looks just like mine during the day, but at night, it looks just like stock. (or so I've been told)

the cop thing is a huge issue. ive wanted colored lights for the longest time. i wanted to make my stock foglights blue. instead of asking friends though, i asked a cop. she wasnt the nicest, i asked her, and she gave me a mean stare and said "you're not supposed to have any of that crap on your car" well, that was nice, WHO CARES!! then she told me it was against the law, but nobody really enforces it. my suggestion: only do colored stuff that you CAN TURN OFF if you see a cop. dont use your signal if you see one. this might seem dumb, but you would rather have a ticket for not signalling than one for illegal lighting!! most of the cops i have seen dont really care, but you dont want to push your luck. go for the color, i say!!

I need to know about Long Island. I have a set of blue fogs on and got 2 tickets in the same week for having them on. But I did try the turning them off when I saw a cop but they still nailed me for them. I still have them but only use them for show. WHen I had them on I was always looking around for cops and they did look really cool at night, it's not worth another ticket and always having to keep a close eye out.

im from lawrence on the south shore. my biggest problem with foglights was that the kept getting stolen. I found that most Nassau cops really didnt care much, when i went through Garden City (on the way home from Roosevelt Field mall) those kangaroos nailed me for all kinds of dumb ish. i had on a set of blue and a set of white fogs. i didnt realize the blues were on. anyway, i got a ticket for no headlights (6:30 on a summer night, its not dark yet) and ticket for "dazzling fog lights". it was dropped because it was what i call a questionable offense, whats a dazzling fog light? if you have a superwhite light in your cornerlamps, i doubt they will bother you. mostly they would bother some punk kid, with a boomin system, all kinda of lights and crap, flicking cigarette butts out the windows with all their friends in the back seat. its also a matter of who the cop is. ive been in the car with my friend and weve gotten pulled over for yellow fogs. if the light is of legal color (yellow, white, amber) the most they will do is either tell you to turn them off, or just warn you. bluish corner they probably wont hassle you because the bulb is in the factory location, or you could just tell them that you bought the car like that. hope i was of some help, i got tons of stories i could go all day. if you need more let me know..

DMV law sez: lights in front half of vehicle my ONLY be white or amber, lights in rear half of vehicle may ONLY be amber or red.

You can have clear everything in front and be 100% legal, even with clear bulbs...as was mentioned, stock cars (even from the 80s) have these stock.

100% clear in the back (i.E. your brake & tail lights) is ILLEGAL...find a company that makes the lights with some red in them..usually reflectors or the bulb area is red...looks trick and is "legal"..holds up court mostly..and confuses the cops enough that they will think twice about giving you a ticket. Clear is OK for anything else in back..turn signals, etc.

The problem with "blue" lights is blue is ilegal on ANY vehicle since its used to identify emergency vehicles.
You want advice...lose the "blue" and just get super whites...work better anyway.

One final interesting note..the DMV laws (some states at least) are kind of construed so you could have AMBER brake and tail lights and be 100% legal...THAT would be different.

hehe, amber brake lights? well that would explain it.. my passenger side brake bulb was faded. it was orange when I put on brakes a cop was on my route home today and didn't even look at me strange.

As far as the blue lights, IMO, if you have a stagnant blue light under your car or on the bottom, its VERY obvious that thats either a cop thats flipper over, or not a cop at all.

btw, thanks for the tail light info anime, I had conisdered getting superwhite turns in the rear, so much for that idea.

Go ahead and buy semi clears...ones with mostly clear lenses but some red in them..then use red or amber bulbs and youre "legal" :D

Superwhites in the rear were intended for brighter reverse lights, and to be used with the factory lenses....just a brighter bulb...so your tail/brake/turn lights would be brighter..not so they would be white.
