Well, my patio table tipped over due to some nice gusty winds, and shattered. It is kinda like the one pictured below.

I think replacing the tempered glass would be too expensive, since the table was like $37 in the first place, so, I am kinda thinking of other ideas for a replacement top. Maybe something that I don't have to worry about if it tips over again.

Maybe cut some wood to fit, and seal it...?
Thick plexiglass...?
Metal, but I don't have the tools, or welder...?

You guys have any creative ideas???

What size is the table top??? you may be able to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy a plywood round pre-cut to size then stain and varathane!

Throw it in the trash and buy another one for $37. Even a nice piece of plywood around here will run your $30 plus stain and time. The overseas stuff is to cheap to fix if you break it just buy another one.

I like the pre-cut wood idea. Then if you have access to a tile saw, you could put ceramic tiles on the top. I'd imagine they'd fair pretty well even if they got blown over again.

To prevent future falls, you could put some straps across the legs and anchor it to your patio as well.

Well, places around town are sold out of "cheap" tables. Pry would have bought a new one, if there were any cheap ones available.

These are great ideas. Keep 'em coming

Throw a blue tarp over the frame and use bungee cords to pull it tight :D

If you feed adventureous(sp?) and want to add some weight to it...

Weld expanded metal under the top... add a few cross braces, then cover the expanded metal with tiles.. You will have to cut tiles since your top is round but it'll add weight and you can change the look/feel of the table by just changing tiles.

I recently bought a 4'x4' (square) piece of tempered glass, and buy acrylic all the time. Neither is cost effective for a $37 table. You'd pay over $100 either way.

No matter how well you seal it wood will eventually absorb moisture. What I'd suggest is that you find a plastic supplier, or sign supply that sells 6mm PVC board, it's about 1/4" thick, and comes in Black, white, and a few other colors.

That runs about $60 for a 4x8 sheet, and depending on the supplier, they may be able to cut it to size/shape for you. I use this place, but they are only on the west coast:

Another good source is AIN Thyssenkrup Plastics Division... They sell just about anything you could want, and they'll probably cut the circle you need too. We use them at work all the time since they have a branch locally. www.ainplastics.com

To stop it from blowing over in the future, you can either anchor it to the deck (a pain in the butt) or do what I do: Before you go inside, take all four chairs, push them in, and run a rope through them. Then, leave a little slack, and tie two loops at some point in the string. Secure a bungee cord through the two loops to keep the rope taut and viola! My chairs would work their way out on their own in a wind storm, and there was more than a few times I had to pick up my table from the yard, or flip it back over after the wind took it. Heck, I've had it blow my BBQ halfway across and off my deck three differnt times!! But since I started bungee rope trick, the whole mess never moves an inch!!

Get some plywood from a construction site...take pieces and patch them together with some bracing underneath. That way, that part will be free. Then, put on some tiles so it looks nice.
