I posted on the other ST forum (not enought power for the V6) so i thought i would try here.

I currently have a 12 yr old heep that needs replacing, and ’04 Ex V8 AWD, with Class II. Kinda like the Sport Tracs and was thinking of buying a small camper, which might be a little heavy to tow with the Ex and class II. So i found this 5th Wheel, Scamp 19' 2000lbs, 300lb tongue weight. Looks kinda of cool, real small and light and I rather not get the F150/250 to pull it as it will also be a DD and the price of gas . . .you can pull it with a Ranger but I need to seat 4+dog.

The Sport Trac in mind is the V8 AWD version (Adrenaline) with a class III its supposed to tow 7k lbs. The STA have plenty of power put the sticking point with those is the port-hole for the drive shafts. Those goosenecks need to mount where the diff is. Any one mount one?

Any experience or insight is greatly appreciated. . . no big rush, just trying to get my duck lined up for Fall.

The Sport Trac would pull this camper no problem. Your going to have to go through some trial and error on the hitches though. You might have to order one for a ranger and make it work in the bed of the Sport Trac.
I know this would be alot easier on the 1st gen sport tracs as the frames were very similar to the Ranger.

do 5th wheel hitches mount to the frame through the bed or to the bed itself?
The sport trac "bed" is a composite material, not metal as far as I know

This is interesting would love to see the results
The Sport Trac adrenaline resembles an F-150 to me (when I see them on the road) so an F-150 mount may work?? They still have a frame back there right? LOL kidding!

To the frame.

As far as them having a frame.... They do and they are stronger than ours :p:

I remember one of the truck magazines wrote about installing a 5th wheel hitch on a project Dodge Magnum. They had to fabricate a lot (I think they built risers) because the bed was too short for a correct turning radius, or something like that. I would think the same could be said for any crew-cab type short-bed pickup. Post pictures if you get a hitch in the bed!

At least the Stinger hitch is more affordable.

plus you can use it if your carrying a heavy load, not just a trailer. Lets say you have something really big in the bed of your truck. By using the stinger you can raise the bed of your truck and take some of the weight off your suspension.
