Hi: I just purchased a 93 Sport - haven't even gotten it yet actually, hopefully today! Wanted to introduce myself. This will be my first SUV and 4x4 vehicle, so I'm excited. I know i got a good deal on this one: 97k miles, 2 door, one owner and very clean! new clutch, aftermarket Sony stereo and roof rack....$1600. I only got this to get myself to Bear Valley this year, since I already have a commuter car. Can't wait! The only thing bad I've heard about them is the door handles breaking, and trannies going out, but I think those are on the automatics more so than the manuals. Can anyone confirm that? Anything else I should be aware of?

thanks.....

Welcome to this forum! Everything lasts if it's maintained, and not abused. Some parts are more durable than others. Everything eventually gets to a point where it doesn't pay to fix anymore.

Hi and welcome. the 1st gen Explorers are very durable but the maint. items include radius arm bushings, wheel bearings, upper and lower ball-joints, tie rod ends, blower motor, blower motor resistor, interior and exterior door handles. the 4x4 shifter motor is also a known area to have issues that most owners can fix themselves, as are the hinge pins on the doors. Check out the sticky for the 91-94 explorers http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=99
Plenty of people here that have been helped tremendously by the people on this forum! (thanks everyone!)

Yikes! that is a long list, but I do know that this stuff comes over time. Just hope it's not right now, hehe. I will barely drive this thing, only for my trips to the snow or places that I really need the room. otherwise, there's no need, so hope that buys me LOTS of time before any issues.

thanks again for the big welcome. Looking forward to learning about my new ride!

Welcome To Explorer Forum! The only thing to break on my truck has been by my hands.
