The cost of building supplies dropping?

Sheets of drywall are $6 when a year ago they were $11. 2x4's are under $2 when they were around $2.70. Also I see the price of insullation has been cut almost in half at home depot as well. They were always high before so I am not sure if supply houses have dropped there prices as well. Some of the tool prices at home depot have had 25% knocked off them as well.

I'll have to investigate this first-hand. I know I've been getting all kinds of 15% off, and $50 off gift cards from HD. I'd like to re-insulate my attic this year too.

Home Depot is hurting, and I think they are trying to push lower prices.. I see signs at the HD saying 'new lower prices!'.

I just got was at Home Depot today buying some electrical components, got the register and the lady said there was 10% off everything I bought. Didn't notice any of the prices of lumber.

Prices are down because building has all but stopped! I haven't had work in ten days, and the paper today says home construction in San Diego is at its lowest level since 1945!

HD has upped my credit limit on my HD card and sent me a 10% off coupon twice now.... of course this after I buy my air compressor :(

Let those prices fall!

..

New-home construction took a bigger-than-expected tumble in September, putting the nation on track to build the fewest homes this year in more than six decades.

That's according to the latest report by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Construction of new homes and apartments across the United States dropped by 6.3 percent last month, a bigger decline than the expected 1.6 percent decrease.

This pushed total production to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 817,000 units, the slowest pace since January 1991 when the country was in a recession and going through a similar housing correction.

In the West, construction slipped by 16.8 percent, with single-family building hitting a record low.

I don't see any prices getting lower in NY. It's possible that these items vary in price from state to state.

I fully agree with the price of insulation falling....I've redone the insulation in our attic for about $200 after a $100 gift card. Section...you may really want to look at Lowes this month as they're running a promo around here anyways where if you buy $300 worth of insulation you get a $100 Lowes gift card. I know the R13 rolls were about $10 a piece, and the R30 unfaced rolls were about $15 a roll. Might be worth a look.
