want to swap my 6 cylinder in my 94 ford explorer for a powerstroke diesel. How complicated would this be?

Welcome to this site, teufelhunde.

I have no answers, but some questions:
- Does it fit, size and weight-wise?
- Which gearbox do you have (re. adapter plate), would it be able to cope with the extra torque?
- Are you ready to custom-make a harness

There are quite some Land Rover folks who converted their V8 (descendant of the old Buick V8) to the 6.2 or 6.5 GM diesels. Very few manage to get a trouble-free result that holds up as a daily runner. Main problems are electrical gremlins, crumbled gearboxes and broken half-shafts ...

(PS. Probably this thread should be moved to "Conversions")

If the front suspension on the Explorer would support the weight of that heavy engine I would be suprised. If this did actually work I would love to know about it. I have been dreaming of a diesel explorer and thought I would just have to wait for a few more years to see if ford every made one, but the 7.3 Powerstprke turbo in an explorer would rock!

I am going to move this to the conversions forum. More replies in that forum.
