Ok guys, I know this is a little off track, but I had to share it with you all. While driving around the town I work for, I came across this beast of a truck that caught my eye. Turns out it was a 2000 Excursion, with 9" lift in front, and 8" lift in the rear. I didn't have a lot of time to talk to the owner of it, but he told me it was done in the L.A. area. I didn't have any way of showing exactlly how impressive this thing was, so the only thing I could do was park my squad car ('2000 Crown Vic) next to it for comparison. To give you an idea, the top of the squads' lightbar is about 5'6" high.

Yeah riff, I knew you'd get a shot in there on me.

Brian, the guy couldn't tell me exactly how much $$$ he spent total, but said he was in the range of 10K. Had the body off truck, spraying the frame and everything underneath black. Chromed most of the suspension parts visible, and differential covers. Also installed a 13" monitor hooked up to a DVD player for rear seat passengers. He claimed there is no engine work YET. If I remember right, he's running 36" Mickey Thompson's. The guy who did the work was there also, and said they set up a black Excursion pretty close to the same, except with a Whipple supercharger. Said its a common thing to light up the tires on it. That I want to see!!!

Have you guys seen that excursion in Car Audio & Security it has a 2 foot lift and 44" Boggers, I can scan pics if you want, I got pics of a another one in Car Audio and it's lifted pretty sick, a lot bigger then that and has bogger and the undercarriage is all chromed out, heh that guy put a 12" screen in his dash and put cameras in his fenders so when he puts his turn signals on it comes up on the screen in his dash, awesome stuff.

Hey RytM1, I know this is kind of off topic, but how fast have you gotten in that Police Interceptor (Squad Car)? And as a matter of interest, what is the HP?

Thanks buddy, first cool cop I have come by in while!! :-P

Thanks Matt. I remember that one now, forgot it was an Excursion.

Peter, thanks for the compliment. The fastest I have had one of the Interceptors is 110 MPH (on the highway trying to catch up to a pursuit), and it felt like it still had plenty in reserve. The Interceptor has the 4.6L V8, and the only numbers I could find concerning HP, showed it to be 210-215 HP, with a top speed of 129 MPH.

Hmm, that's all, only a 4.6L V8 engine, I thought they would have something more than that, but again, the weight of the car is not nearly as heavy as some of our Explorer's!! But holy crap, a top speed of 129 MPH, that's not bad!! LOL

My dad was in an accident on one of the Chicago freeways and he asked the officer about the top speed...The Caprices he'd had up to 155 and he said told him the crown vic's will do something similar. My dad is just finishing up his time on his 98 crown vic. He's got the faster model, true dual, and I've drivin it and you can roll at 80 dump on the gas and that heavy car busts a move. Civilian cars are limited to 104 or 105 I believe, but it's got alot of room to go faster!

God I love Police Cars, they so kick ass! Did I tell you guys that I am interested in joining the force one of these years; I love the thrill, the work, having to work in the actual outdoors!! I wonder how the pay is, better start doing some research!

The new Interceptors (Crown Vics) are quite impressive yet still suck in comparison to the '94 and '95 Caprices used, I miss those. And word up, we have one '01 Interceptor and it has gotten a bump in horse power so maybe ford can "someday" catch up, probably not, but they should try...

No prob, RytM1. I didn't know that was the one you guys were talking about; I had just seen it and figured I would post it

Just how many shocks do you need to put on an Excursion? I counted 8 in the drivers side rear wheel well. I personally cannot see driving such a huge truck, plus they gotta be asking an a$$load of money for it. Too much for me either way..... Love the interior though.

Side note, when I was in the military a few years back, the M.P.'s were still driving around in the K cars. I think the only thing they could catch in those things, would be a cold.

Goober-I take it you were looking at the Excursion in the link with all the car audio? The audio is nice, but the shocks are over kill. I doubt ya need that many...Not to mention, chroming everything? I bet that truck will never touch dirt. I mean it's nice, but if you're goin that big, make it useable offroad.

Here are a few that make several stops at Vegas.

I myself like the black one best. It's got more lights than Matt could ever dream of, and a machine gun holder in the back....what could be better???

Pete, maybe its just because I have driven them longer than the Caprices in my career, but I actually like the Crown Vic better than the Caprices. I think (hope) they probably go over 129, it sure felt like it would when I was doing 110. I may never get the chance to find out though, seeing as how a lot of insurance companies are starting to insist on "no pursuit" policies. :( I went to college at Western IL Univ., and got my official training at the Chicago Police Academy. I work in Bellwood, which is near Melrose Park, and Hillside.

Gimp, I sure hope he could !!! hahaha
We have numbers on all sides of our cars, but never had anyone ID my squad by the roof numbers yet!!!

RytM1--Excellent....All I know is I loved my dads Vic, and hopefully I'll have my own one day.....Can ya tell me if ya had any great Leja professors? I too am now attending Western. It's great here and one day, I'll be out there some where, hopefully a DuPage Sheriff, then some day I'm gonna try for DEA..I've got a LONG way to go, but one can only try, right?

Pete, I had some very good professors, the only problem is that it was 14 years ago, and the memory's not what it used to be. HAHAHA. One of our patrolman, and a Sgt. both went there also, I'll see if they can remember any prof's to take classes from. I was actually talking to one of them just before Thanksgiving about taking a ride down to WIU for ol' times sake. Maybe stop off at The Regulator for a beer or two. Good luck on your future plans. I had the same idea in mind, and I've come to find its not as easy as I thought to go federal. Just don't give up!!

Yes, well I can also tell ya, there are alot of old professors here, so some may still be here! I know I've got a long road ahead of me for federal, but I've got some nice connections, and I'm tryin my damndest to do my best here at school!

I wish I had the money to spend on an Excursion! Anyway, the police crusiers are fast but they have nothing against the highway interceptors cars. I have a 91 interceptor mustang and i love it (it's my newest purchase).
