I am looking for a knife for everyday tasks, something that I would carry with me all of the time.

I am down to two choices,

The Gerber Trendy Knife:

Or

The SOG Blink

Does anyone here have any experience with either of these two brands?

We get the Gerbers in the Army all the time. It's a decent knife. Haven't had any probs with it anyways. I keep it sharp with a sharpener and it cuts anything I need it to, heh. I hardly use it though because I carry this with me 24/7:

This is on me 24/7 and proves itself useful several times a day, every day. Had it 2 years and through a 15 month deployment and it's still like new. Plus it comes with like 8 different bits for alan, torx, and star screws.

I had a gerber but lost it. Have a SOG now and love it.

Both have the spring assist. I'd find the gerber half open in my pocket some times. The SOG has a safety that prevents that.

I carry a Gerber Paraframe I think its called. Walmart sells them cheap and their decent. Cheap enough I don't get mad if I loose them.

I keep a Gerber with me all the time. I've had a couple of them, always been good knives. The only thing I suggest is to not get a serrated knife, but it looks like you aren't going in that direction. I think serration is useless most of the time.

Keep an eye on http://www.steepandcheap.com/ . They run pretty great deals on the above knives often.

Personally, I love the serrated part. Comes in handy quite often. I don't know why you wouldn't want it for a pocket knife, though, I'm curious what your reasoning is?

For an everyday utility knife for cutting boxes, strapping material, etc, it'll wreak havoc on any blade, serrated or not. The higher quality the steel, the longer it'll hold an edge, but eventually you're going to nick a piece of steel, concrete, a nail on a pallet, or drop the thing... The more you use it, the more likely you are to destroy the edge.

For everyday use, I use a SuperKnife. You can get them on Amazon.com for $10 more or less and they take standard (and easily changed) box cutter blades. It folds up like any clipped pocket knife, and works like a charm. When it's dull, flip the blade around.

The cheap imitation ones at Lowes and Home Depot don't work all that well... Their blad changing mechanisms are clunky and awkward. The latest few versions of the Superknife can have the blades changed with no tools, and can be had with rubber grips and a number of other features. For a practical all-around daily use knife, they really can't be beat. Yeah, they're a fancy box-cutter at heart, but it's the best $10 I've ever spent for a knife!

I am never without my Old Timer. I don't like stuff in my pockets so the small Old Timers work great and keep a nice edge considering some of the stuff I use it on.

I've carried a columbia river tiny tighe breaker for a couple of years now, I've been pretty happy with it, I really like the spring assist of the columbia river knives, they also have auto lok that keeps you from closing it accidentally.

I have a Leatherman C301 that I carry everyday. It stays extremely sharp, and it has a lever on the top that makes it extremely easy to open.

EDIT: the C301 is serrated along the lower half of the knife, near the handle. If you don't want the serration, the Leatherman C300 is the same knife as mine except with a straight blade

I have a super small Gerber laying around here somewhere......keep losing it, but its SUPER strong for its tiny size.

I also got a SOG army knife that i got from someone in Iraq, its Incredibly strong and sharp.

If your going to be beating the knife up alot, id get a SOG, but if you just want something good to carry and not get too pissed if you lose....id just get a Gerber or Smith&Wesson knife or something......
The S&W knife i used to have was made in china......but it was still very strong surprisingly......till i lost it go cart racing, lol.

I carry a Gerber Paraframe I think its called. Walmart sells them cheap and their decent. Cheap enough I don't get mad if I loose them.Thats what i carry. Under $20 IIRC. Gerber makes a good cheap knife. I am way too hard on a pocket knife to risk losing/destroying something like a Benchmade or a Kershaw.

I have two gerber multi tools and love them! I have a gerber locking folder that will not keep an edge. I carry an sog flash with me every day at work but if you want a knife/tool for every day tasks get the multi tool they are much more handy.
