last year i changed my alt with a high amp one. 200 amps. The pully on the unit was a little smaller then the org. I had gone down 1/2" in the belt size but its still making a noise:mad:. I have tried belt dressing but its oil based and destroys the belt after time. another friend told me to put brake disc cleaner on it.. silicone goop as i call it. it helps for a few days but it just come s right back. any ideas what i should try next.
forgot to say ... last year i have replaced the pully
thx in advance. Joell

I had a squeak/screech coming from my serpentine belt for many years. Dealer replaced the belt under warranty and I replaced the belt once too. The noise would leave for a little while but always come back.
I finally switched to a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt which has bias cross cuts through the ribs for noise reduction. It works perfectly - no noise at all now. Highly recommended and easy to do.

ivory soap works good for quietening a belt.

Welcome to this forum! Did you see if you still get the noise if you remove the belt? It could be the belt, idler or a bearing on the alternator, water pump, power steering pump or the A/C compressor. Turn each one by hand to see if it squeeks.

Do not put anything on the belt.
