What does this tell you if anything?

Explorer will not start. When I try to start all I get now is one click. Battery fine (replaced).

If I jump the solenoid all I get is a very rapid click, click, click.

any help appreciated.

thanks
Bob

That suggests to me there isn't enough voltage/current getting to the starter. If you are certain the battery is good and fully charged, I would next look at the battery cables/connections.

As MrShorty has indicated the rapid clicking indicates the starter is not getting enough power to turn the engine over. As such the problem is either a weak battery or loose or corroded wiring (common issues).

Thanks MrShorty and DeRocha.

I put a Multi meter on the old battery and the "new" battery and the readings are 12.4V and 12.6V.....obviously with motor not running---lol.

So, it must be the cables at the starter end. Battery cable at the battery look OK.
Not to whine....but just to explain....truck parked on ice and snow and fronted to a huge snow bank. 10 degrees and a stiff breeze.

Might save the rest of the troubleshooting for a warmer day.

Many Thanks
Bob

Well, I thought I should finish the story.....
Wasn't the cables either.....
It was the starter!
Replaced today (much warmer day)...problem solved.
