Spectre 01-18-2001, 08:36 PM Sweet Jiminy Christmas! That thing kicks so much butt it isn't even funny! Where did you get that pre-runner bar?
Trckmagik 01-18-2001, 08:38 PM Looks great man! You are starting to look like Sinjin's ride here in Texas. Keep up the great mods. I know you are loving that Powertrax! I just got one on my 92 and it is great!
Brian1 01-18-2001, 10:13 PM Awesome looking rig! I bet it is very capeable too.
Sinjin 01-18-2001, 10:26 PM Actually Brian I think Mike's rig has looked like this long before my ride. I know he had the 3" body lift way before me. As a matter of fact, think he was the first to have that lift on a late model. ;)
Looks great Mike!
Nick K 01-18-2001, 11:47 PM Great looking truck!!!!
drmoore71 01-19-2001, 12:11 AM hey, mike? can i have your truck? please, please please! i'll trade you even for mine!
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1274301&a=9435869&p=35328208
i can even bring it to ya, you won't even have to leave the house!
SDMike 01-19-2001, 03:48 AM When I first got my explorer in March of '95, the first thought I had was, I need to get a lift for this thing! I had already bought it, not knowing that there was nothing available, and for two years I waited and persistently kept calling every lift maker (rancho, trailmaster, superlift..etc..)to try and get them to make a lift, and even offering my truck as a guinea pig, but I kept getting the same answer, from each and every company, "there's no market demand for your vehicle, it's a sport utility, no one lifts sport utility vehicles, but your persistence is appreciated and if we get enough demand, then we'll build one, so keep trying..." same excuse b/s... and so in '97 was when I finally found at least a 3-inch body lift from Off Road Warehouse in San Diego to satisfy my needs. It's good to see now that lift makers are finally seeing that there is such a demand, FiNALLY...better late than never...
trckmagik Yeah that powertrax is sweet, I live in San Diego, so Truckhaven is close enough to put it to the test. Still getting use to driving with it on the street.
drmoore71 I'll Trade with you FOR A DAY!

RangerX 01-19-2001, 04:16 AM Dude, you're livin' in San Diego with a truck like that, and you DIDN'T make it to Truckhaven last weekend? What's up with that!!! I hope you have a good excuse!
SDMike 01-19-2001, 11:48 AM I was stranded down in Mex..surfing really good waves, if I recall from last year's Truckhaven where I met you, you're a surfer too, so you could probably understand my dilemma..epic waves, truckhaven, epic waves, truckhaven, I tried to do both, but I was outvoted, so it didn't happen...truckhaven will always be there, although it would have been cool to meet and wheel with everyone...let me know when you go to T-haven again, maybe you can take me on one of those legendary night runs...actually I might go to los coyotes this weekend w/ some J**p friends..
Trckmagik 01-19-2001, 12:53 PM Yea I have had my Poertrax on for about a month now and I am still getting use to the street driving. I wish I lived somewhere where there is so much off-roading. Oh well, maybe ill see more when I move from Dallas to Phoenix.
RangerX 01-19-2001, 04:57 PM Mike, point taken about truckhaven always being there and and waves aren't! Next time we're going is the first weekend in March.
2001ExpSport 01-19-2001, 07:29 PM Do any trimming for those 33's?
SDMike 01-19-2001, 07:37 PM 2001ExpSport
yeah the inside fenderwell with a dremel, some moderate trimming.
2001ExpSport 01-19-2001, 08:39 PM So the bumper and rocker panels were ok?
TURDS 01-20-2001, 05:45 PM DANGT! that is the sweetest explorer! I want it really bad. Please tell me bout your body lift and if it was hard or not. I am gonna do the same thing with mine but i have 3.73 gears which will be ok till i get enough money. How do you like those bfgs?
travis
GRNMACHINE 01-21-2001, 05:37 PM SD,
that is one tuff lookin truck! good job. would the black plastic valance fit under the bumper if u did alot of cutting? i noticed other lifted explorers removed theirs also. i removed mine to fit 32" tires but it looked ridiculous with the fog lights just sitting there with nothing around them. so i started grinding til it fit.
Rick
RU MAN 01-21-2001, 10:48 PM Damn good lookin truck!!!!
drmoore, i'll trade ya.haha
good work SDMIKE
SDMike 01-22-2001, 11:23 AM 2001ExpSport
Yeah the bumper and the rocker panels were fine, didn't have to do anything to them.
TURDS
Can't really tell you much about my body lift, except that I got it @ Off Road Warehouse in SD, and they did the install for me. It's the same 3-inch lift that a couple of other people have on their explorers. I think
GRNMACHINE
I just took my front valance off, cause it looked a little higher without it, not because I had problems with my tires rubbing on it. My friend took his off his ranger and I thought it looked pretty cool.
TURDS
I Love these BFG's. At first I thought they would be unbearable on the streets, noise wise, but they're not bad at all. and they have performed well off road too.
2001ExpSport 01-22-2001, 08:03 PM Cool, 33's be comin soon...
TURDS 01-24-2001, 05:06 PM Hey SDMike, i have two questions for you.
1. Are you 2wd or 2wd?
2. What gears do you have?
thanks
travis
SDMike 01-24-2001, 05:24 PM I'm a 2WD and my gearing is 3.73, and it's not bad, but it could be better. I'm going to upgrade to 4.10 or 4.56 soon.
TURDS 01-24-2001, 09:31 PM SDMIKE, from looking at your explorer I talked my dad into letting me get 33/12.5 BFG MTs and the 2 inch body lift, torsion/shackles, 3 inch lift spindle for the front, and then add-a-leafs for the rear. I am going to have a twin of yours, except mine'll be a bit higher.
Travis
SDMike 01-24-2001, 09:41 PM Turd,
cool, make sure you post some pics...I was thinking about the spindle lift up front too...maybe when i see pictures of yours, it'll convince me to get'em. Then we'll have to think of names for our trucks.
Mike
TURDS 01-24-2001, 10:43 PM Do they make a spindle for your truck? Sorry to goof you up, but i think that they only make them for the 98-00. I'm sure you could probably get it to work some how. Anyways i've already named mine, but i will help you think of a pimpin' name. As you can see, my name will be TURDS.
It stands for
Travis's
Ultimate (or ugly whatever you wish)
Red
Devastator (or Dominator)
Supercharged (will be when they come that
supercharger for the SOHC)
BTW, that SUPERCHARGED will be in italics.
I will only have TURDS on the back tho....
How is offroading in your rig? I have been wondering about a limited slip... still can't decide.....but oh well. I will doing a whole bunch of mods in august. Here is a list of what im going to do with 5 grande....
Lift kit (3) = 1000
Dual exhaust = 400
Body Lift (2) = 300
Tor/war153 = 50
Wheels (33s) = 1000
Locker (LS) = 300
Miscellanueos = 500
Light Bar = 50
Lights = 100
Whip = 50
Extra Labor = 500
Gears (4.10) = 500
Superchip = 200
Total = 4950
Explorer Pro Comp makes a lift for mine. The front are spindles (3 inches) And the rear is an add-a-leaf. For our Sports, we have a monoleaf. To be able to "add-a-leaf" we have to convert our monoleaf to a conventional leaf pack from a four door explorer. There are websites that have used explorer parts. I called three and all three would sell me a pair for 130-150 plus shipping. I am pretty sure this would be a good deal, but i am very concerned if i do this about a rollover..... as well as REALLY bad handling. If anyone has any ideas about lifts and rollovers, please let me know, i want a cool ride, but i wanna be safe too.
Travis
Tekeman 01-24-2001, 10:55 PM Nice truck. I like the pre-runner. I might go that way rather than the more common wraparound.
TURDS 02-11-2001, 04:35 PM Hey SDMIKE, if by chance you have more pics, could you please send them to cavedog26@aol.com ?
thanks
travis
KillerXLT 02-12-2001, 07:53 PM let me start by saying SDmike I am extremely jealous, You have a lift on your ride and your enjoying killer waves in warm water! I surf and live in NJ. I wanted to know if that lift can be put on a 95 4-door XLT?
SDMike 02-13-2001, 04:24 PM KillerXLT,
Well, there has been numerous discussions on body lifts for '95+ up explorers. It has been done, by several people, and there's even a write up on how to do it. Check these links out, they should help...

Hope this helps...and the water here in SD is freezing 55degrees, but it does get up in the upper 60's during the summer...
Travis,
DO you still want pics? I've got more. let me know and i'll email them to you..
TURDS 02-13-2001, 11:14 PM Heyyyy mike! i would LOVE pics, cavedog26@aol.com if ya will sir.
thanks
turds
TheMissin'Link 02-15-2001, 09:59 AM Wow! I think your truck is completely amazing, Mike. I have a '91 and have always liked the "old school" body syle, but yours makes me much more open to the 95+ years. It looks awesome. Maybe my next car will be a Sport...I just hope that I would somehow be able to get that same lift that you have. Good luck with whatever mods you plan next!...and I can't wait to see some more pictures!
coolchriscush 02-13-2002, 11:22 PM hey, your pics dont work so i was wodering if you could send me some if you have any. cush007@hotmail.com thanks dude!
SDMike 02-15-2002, 05:26 PM Chris,
i think i fixed my link...check it out
Agent_51 02-15-2002, 11:40 PM Nice. Hopefully i can convince my parents to let me buy one!
PLLLLEAAAASSE DAD!
SCEXPLORER 03-01-2002, 02:06 AM Hey Mike! I'm just wondering how you do offroad? I've been offroading with my with an auburn limited slip and its great. I just want to know how much we can do with our 2wd.
Robert 03-01-2002, 10:01 AM Mike,
Do they make garages shorter in California or have you done more than just the taller tires, TT/shackle & 3" body lift? I have basically done the same to my '97 Sport except my tires are 32" equivalents rather than 33" yet I still have about 4" between my roof rack and 7' garage door. It doesn't look like you could get yours into your garage. I like the tires. My LTX ATs have about 20K more miles and I will look harder at the BF Goodrichs.
djselfimposed 03-27-2002, 11:29 PM hey sdmike, I live in Escondido, give me a holler man, also, how much was it for them to install the 3" lift kit. Check this out. The san marcos ORW is right down the road. Also, do they have shackles there, if so how much,
Jason
djselfimposed 03-28-2002, 02:00 AM in reply i wanted to add to "short garages". It's looks like a cali suberban track home from the pic. Therefor, they werent really made for something lifted. At least it's that way with my track home. They are a bitch sometimes!
Robert 03-28-2002, 11:09 AM Our Arizona suburban track houses are pretty much modeled after California's. I have a 7' garage door on mine and have several inches between my roof rack and door. It looks like Mike would take his rack off the first time he pulled into his garage leading me to believe either he has a 6' door or his lifts resulted in more height than I got out of my '97.
stadx2 04-09-2002, 11:48 PM Great looking truck Mike!
Wheres that dirtbike carrier?????
Rubyn 04-15-2002, 08:56 AM SdMike, love the height on your 95 :) NOt very often you see a X our years 95-97 with height like yours. Mine is 4 wheel drive though, wish it was 2 cause you can do more to it.
Just wanted to let you know it looks REALLY sweet! Keep it up :bounce:
