I've had emergency brake problems since the lift. I know I'm supposed to get a new (longer) cable but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Instead, I thought of converting to a drive shaft disk brake setup. Anyone done this? Is there a kit or is this a custom mod?

I have always wanted to do this, because it would hold so much better than the stock setup. The only kits I have seen available are for toyotas, made by all pro offroad.

have you guys checked out that edition of petersons w\ the tan toyota on the cover on its side? that guy made his own right into the driveshaft itself. i wanna say it was from a motorcycle or somthing. Looked like it would work great!! no, i know i don't have those kind of fabrication skills...yet...do you guys? if not, im sure a fab shop could whip you up somting like that pretty easily.

The driveshaft brake is fairly simple. However, it's not really on the driveshaft. It should be mounted on the output shaft of the transfer case. If you add a disc to the driveshaft, you'll throw it out of balance. Plus, if the shaft sits at an angle, you'll need a bracket to hold the caliper and it'll be weaker than one bolted to the case. Think of it in these terms and your system will start to come together.
