Drive by wire Throttle Lag.. Does this work?

I googled DBW setups and mustangs to see if any mustang owners had the same problem. On another forum I found these instructions.

1- Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine(dashboard lights come on and chime sounds).
2- After the chime stops, smoothly depress the gas pedal to the floor while counting 1001-1002-1003.
3- Release the gas pedal using the same procedure in 2.
4- Wait 6 seconds, and turn the ignition to OFF.
5- Wait 6 sec., and repeat steps 1-4 two more times.

I did it.. and I "Think" it made a difference, but need to more testing. Lag is still here but seemed not as evident.

Has anyone else tried this or is a bunch of horse pucky?

hmmm i noticed that my EX has qtuite a bit of lag. i'm gonna give this a try when i get home!

I can't see why it WOULD work.
The procedure is there, but what is it working on, why would this make it respond better.
In the Mazda world (there was virtualy no lag), but we would ground the throttle body and it would add smoothness. I tried this to no avail on the Ford.

I'm trying to work with Ford Motor Co. about this now. No response as of yet.

I have Fly by Wire '04 4.6L, and I thought i read somewhere in the marketing literature, something called 'stepped throttle control'. Which could be toggled with NGS scan tool, . .i'm not sure if its on or off, but this might change it without the tool . . . .
When i first got my Ex, it seemed on, it might be called a delay or at slow speeds you had to use a lot of pedal just to inch the truck forward. It changes the relation of pedal to throttle to fine tune the response and promote transmission longevity so it said. The way i felt it is if you use half pedal that was only 10% throttle. After i got a new flash or update it was gone, maybe turned off because of the different fee and throttle response that resulted in a lot of complaints.

i had awful throttle response in my 06 v6 mustang there would be times when i would move out to pass and toss it in 3rd and it would just fall on its face others rarely did this happen and seemed to only happen on longer road trips when i would be cruising at a constant speed most of the way. A lot of times it would rev after i lifted on the up shift an other times if i would coast it seemed to search through the rpms it would rev up to 1500 then drop back to idle the go back up till i kicked the gas the just stop.... i heard of the petal trick/fix and was never successful with it... My spor trac doesnt seem to have a problem well yet anyway

I'm going to try this l8r.
Being an Ex-intelligent lighting repairman, I know a stepper motor can work instantaneously at any increment so it's being controlled somehow.

Edit: I just did a video of the flap action, I'll get it up l8r.

But no throttle cable...
I had been tempted to look in the TB on mine to see how it worked.. but now I dont have to.

What is the sound we're hearing.. its not really that loud is it?

It's controlled electronically, there is no wire.

Yes it is, try it in an enclosed area w/ the engine off, you'll hear it. I can hear with the hood closed.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but thought it'd be better than making a new one.

I am confused, this is the third mention I've seen of the 3rd gen having throttle by wire but mine does not seem to...

I have not taken the throttle cover off yet but I have a cable coming from the firewall going to it and another cable coming from a cruise control actuator going to it.

Early 3 rd gens have Cable driven TB. Mine does and it's great! Such snappy response

Get Rid of DBW

It'd be an interesting challenge to get rid of the motor-actuated TB, using an earlier cable-drive.

Obstacles would be the PCM, mainly, but the interface between all the other events such as tip-in and out of injection might prove troublesome.

My '04 Ex. (with DBW), works, for the most part, OK. There is a lag noticeable when rounding a right-turn on say a residential street, slow speed maybe 15 mph, zero throttle until coming out of the turn, slight pedal depression produces nothing for about 3 seconds, then picks up power smoothly. Harder pedal depression wakes it up quick with a jerk which pisses off my wife.

Seems, when she drives it, the problem ain't there. Damn Ex is afraid of her! imp

2004-2005 have the DBW. 2002-2003 were cable.

Would there be any benefit on an 02-04 to switching from cable to DBW? Or would most prefer to go back to cable? Any difference in power or fuel milage? I wouldn't think it would make any difference but I wanna know for sure.

I'm just wondering because around here these trucks go for $5-800 all day with blown engines, transmissions,etc. If there is noticeable gains to be had I could buy one cheap, take what I want, then sell/scrap the rest and come out money ahead. I'm already doing this. I have 2 in my garage and one in the driveway.
