I was talking to the mechanic whos swapping out yet another bad a4ld today when he said he would like to try converting my 91 sport's a4ld to the 700 he said he would have to cut and fab the bell houseing and some other stuff but it could be done..(It would probably last forever too)What ya think???

Where is it, how much, and how long will it take? Being that mine is currently in the tranny shop for the 10th time in the last 1.5 years I am ready to do anything to get rid of the A4LD. The only other option is to go to the Mazda 5-speed but I don't like manuals. Advanced Adaptors either has or is making an adaptor to fit a T-5 to the 4.0 but once again I don't really like manuals. The best swap would be an AOD that way it's all Ford but there aren't any adaptors out there (HINT, HINT). The 700 is supposedly a great tranny though and it would be bullit-proof behind the strongest 4.0L anyone could build.

Whats a C-700? Is that the GM 700 trans?

If thats the one that would be a way cool swap if it could be done. The trans is stronger, has a better 1st gear, and doesnt run as hot as some.

Post the details , prices, cause it wont be cheap, although with the troubles getting a good A4LD rebuild may be cheaper in the long run.

I thought about a 700 with an atlas t-case which would be really nice.

Keep us posted please

Yeah I dont think itll be a peice of cake..He said hes looking into if its even possible, But he said if he chops up the bellhousing and adds a hole or two etc.. he might be able to do it..The aod would be cool, but even thats not the best tranny...The 5-speeds suck..I love driving a stick but youll see just as many of those in the shop as the a4ld...Total est. cost would be about $2000.00, not too shabby considering that a GOOD rebuild job can cost almost that much, and a new replacment a4ld can cost up to $2200.00 complete...AND the mechanic is so sure of the chevy tranny he'll give me a year warranty on PARTS AND LABOR if he can do the swap.......Well see..all this is bassed on the assumption he CAN make the swap. Ill keep you posted..Itll probably be a while
