I've been thinking about possible transmissions for upgrading. The C5 has been available behind the 60 deg. V6 in Rangers, Bronco IIs, and even 2.8L Pintos and Bobcats. I've read it's internally the same as a C4 which can be built into a durable transmission for use behind small block V8s.
Wouldn't a built-up C5, or C4 with the V6 bellhousing, be an option for a more durable trans? Overdrive would be lost, but that may not be such a big deal.
