Wow I just found this site through a couple links...I have been a foreign guy all my life. From VW's to Hondas but now I live in Michigan and have fell for the Explorer. I have found a 97 Explorer sport with 15K Miles at a local dealer and they are asking $14,000 for it. This seems like a very good deal. My question is...Is there a HUGE difference in 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive. I mean I have never owned a truck or anything with 4 wheel drive. I will not be taking this off road. Is this price pretty good and lets say one day I want to take it off road. Can I expect it to get stuck alot. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Thanks

Justin,
First of all welcome to the board. You will find a lot of info and great people here.
I'm not sure if it is a good price but as far as you don't plan on taking it off road. If you stick around this board you will be wanting to go four wheeling. Then once you go you will be hooked, so plan on doing a little wheeling with it at least. You will be surprised how well you can do even with a stock one. Check out the Moab2001 thread and see how many stock Explorer's are going. Most of them have done at least one trip and that is why they are coming back.
Good luck on your choice.

If I had the option to get either 2wd or 4wd even if there was a good chance I wasn't going to use the 4wd I would get the 4wd. A 4wd is so much more versitle than a 2wd although there are a few 2wds on here that are pretty tough. I would go for the 4wd for sure, especially if you just found this site. You will definitely be bitten by the bug very soon.
Good luck and welcome to this awesome wedsite!!

Welcome to the site Justin!
Where about do you live? That can also dictate what you get. I'd go with 4wd, it's a great comfort to have and you never know, you may catch the 4wheel bug hanging around here! Glad you were able to find us and feel free to ask about anything. Also, the search function is a great way to find some terrific info on the site.

Thanks for the reply's guys...I live in Lansing Michigan. Haven't seen or heard of many places to go wheelin at but I am sure they are out there. I just can't get away ferom the fact that the Explorer is only 14K with 15 thousand miles on it. It's only 97! It looks sweet and there is not a single scratch on it. Question...is there any clubs in the Midwest that anyone knows about? Thanks again guys!

i bought an explorer sport trac a month ago i had to trade in my 94 t-bird on a recall for blown head gasket . i loved my t- bird and it only had 21thousand miles on it . i saw an explorer sport trac 3 months before this happened and i thought it was the best looking vehicle i've ever seen not knowing i would blow the heads on my t-bird back then . i went to the dealer looked at it and drove away an hour later in an island blue sport trac . i love it and have been adding all the extras to it since . like the brush guard and taillight covers and mud flaps and cover and so on my explorer goes . i love it and it looks good on the road . i always get comments on it . i keep it very clean and in the garage when it's home . buy it buy it now i got employee discount and it still cost me over 30 thousand but i would do it again

Welcome to the site Sissy!
Glad to hear you are so happy with your truck. Of course, we always need to see pictures around here!! It would be great if you could throw some on here, it sounds like you've got a really nice truck!
