Ok my CB is driving me crazy! last group outing the IL people had I had alright distance. Now this outing 20 yards or so and Matt ( I've ) could no hear me.

Could it be one the antenna? should I ground it? all I have around the house is copper wire.

Also the CB is mounted to plastic. Matt said I may want to put it into the dash in metal?

I really need to have this thing fine tuned before Attica, and I have no CB shops around me..

Thanks for the help in advance everyone.

You can tune it yourself. Alls you need to do is go to a store like radio shack and find an SWR meter. Inside it should have the directions to tune it yourself. I had a problem like that with mine and after tuneing it, the thing worked great. Hope that helps out some

what type of antenna do you have?? I'd start by checking the connection's for the antenna and the CB. It sounds like maybe one is lose. You also should ground the antenna. Otherwise you'll pick up more stactic than you can stand. Were you able to here them at all??

Like I said.....recheck all the connections....it sounds like on maybe bad.

Yeah I was able to hear him load and clear! he just said I came in very week like I was whispering! I got a tenna from Radio shack humm it was a 30.00 one with a coil on it. Matt says it is for HAM radio, but on the package it says it is for a CB..

Said it once, twice, and gosh knows how many times...

cheap antenna=cheap CB

Take the antenna back and get either a Cobra, Firestick, or Wilson. I've only heard good things about these three.

If you have a knob or dial labeled Mic Gain, try turning it up all the way.

Commocozy,

If you have the Radio Shack Antenna, Catalog # 21-972, then, assuming you didn't get a defective one, it should be a decent antenna. It is a combo CB and 10 Meter Ham antenna, but it comes pre-tuned to the CB (11 Meter) band. It does have the capability to be tuned for the 10 Meter Ham Band, but you'd have to cut off part of the whip for that, so don't worry. If it is the above, it should be a magnet mount, and you shouldn't need to ground it, as it "capacitively couples" it's ground by being stuck to metal body panels such as the roof. Leebo's right in his cheap antenna = cheap CB comment, but that one is, in quality, middle range for performance, and shouldn't be giving you the symptoms you describe. It might help to run a short ground lead from a metal screw, etc. on the case of the radio, to a grounded screw in the car, near where the cb mounts. Also, in addition to the Mic Gain control, check the mic connections, also, since it worked before, have you dropped the microphone, or gotten it wet, since? Also tell us a bit about the radio: age, make. model etc. if you're still having trouble.
